GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE
The Specialty Artist – MAC is responsible for maximizing sales in the MAC brand (color cosmetics, skincare, and fragrance) by engaging guests, determining their individual needs, assisting in product selection and purchase, and maintaining overall store standards including cleanliness and replenishment. This role represents the Ulta Beauty and MAC brand image, supports the Experience Manager, and focuses on performance (sales and events), people (guest service), and process (procedures and compliance).

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Performance

Meet or exceed MAC brand sales and service goals and contribute to store-wide goals related to retail, service sales, guest loyalty, omni‑channel, and shrink.

Build and maintain strong customer relationships, actively contact a growing preferred guest list, and follow up on inquiries.

Provide exceptional service by greeting and engaging every guest, personalizing interactions, offering samples, and recommending complementary items.

Conduct personalized makeup demonstrations, applications, lessons, skincare analyses, and product demos with guests to MAC and Ulta standards.

Complete required Skill Certification sets within the specified time frames.

Stay informed and promote promotions and marketing initiatives across the store.

Book appointments and support events that deliver a superior guest experience while meeting sales goals.

Stay current on industry trends, products, and services, and articulate ingredients and benefits to guests.

Maintain prompt, regular attendance.

People

Contribute to an inclusive environment that supports teammates, peers, and guests.

Share benefits of the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta app.

Maintain an active clientele portfolio for MAC sales.

Act as an Ulta and MAC brand ambassador, sharing knowledge, techniques, and MAC programs such as the Back to MAC initiative.

Build strong relationships with MAC brand partners through required trainings and events.

Participate in ongoing training to drive professional development and sales performance.

Collaborate with managers and associates to grow business.

Process

Know and adhere to Ulta Beauty policies, procedures, and standards.

Follow the dress code and wear brand assets as directed.

Keep assigned work area replenished, displayed, and compliant with hygiene standards.

Maintain operational standards, including supporting MAC recycling and cleanliness of all assigned areas.

Participate in merchandise resets, marketing displays, inventory procedures, and shipment processing using Ulta and MAC technology.

Protect assets by following loss‑prevention best practices.

Execute other operational tasks as directed.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education

High school diploma preferred.

Cosmetology or demonstrator license where required by state law.

Experience

Cosmetics artistry experience preferred.

Skills

Competency in sales, product knowledge, and service.

Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Ability to handle guest concerns and prioritize tasks in a fast‑paced environment.

Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Work a flexible schedule to include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Attend brand‑sponsored trainings.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Frequent mobility during shift.

Frequent standing, bending, reaching, pushing, and twisting.

Continuous lifting and/or moving up to 10 lbs.

Continuous coordination and manipulation of objects.

The pay range for this position is $18.00 – $28.00 per hour. Exact pay will be based on factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, level, shift, geographic location, and business needs. Eligible associates may also earn overtime pay as required by applicable law. Full‑time positions are eligible for paid time off, health, dental, vision, life, and disability benefits. Part‑time positions are eligible for dental, vision, life, and disability benefits.
