Position Overview

CLFC Healthcare & Communications is seeking a Psychiatrist to provide comprehensive mental health services at a federal metropolitan detention center in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. You will evaluate, diagnose, and treat psychiatric disorders in an incarcerated population, managing conditions including major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia spectrum disorders, PTSD, substance use disorders, and personality disorders within a structured correctional environment.

The psychiatrist leads the behavioral health team at this facility, collaborating with psychologists, social workers, nursing staff, and primary care providers to deliver integrated care under Bureau of Prisons mental health standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations, diagnostic assessments, and medication management for inmates with mental health conditions
  • Manage psychotropic medication regimens including antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, antidepressants, and anxiolytics per BOP formulary guidelines
  • Perform psychiatric emergency assessments including suicide risk evaluations and crisis intervention
  • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings and develop individualized treatment plans
  • Conduct competency evaluations and provide forensic psychiatric consultation as needed
  • Manage dual-diagnosis patients with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders
  • Supervise mid-level providers prescribing psychotropic medications
  • Maintain clinical documentation per BOP standards and participate in quality improvement initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
  • Board certified in Psychiatry (ABPN)
  • Active, unrestricted medical license in Puerto Rico or any U.S. state
  • Active DEA registration
  • Current BLS certification
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Ability to pass comprehensive federal background investigation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency
  • Forensic psychiatry fellowship or correctional mental health experience
  • Familiarity with BOP Psychology Services and mental health policies
  • Experience with medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorder

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary: $260,000 - $335,000 annually
