Job Title
BTS Arts Educator
Certification Required
Current State of Utah Teaching License
K-6 or K-12 Endorsement in an Art Form (Dance, Drama, Music, or Visual Art)
Position Purpose
The arts educator has the responsibility to build student and educator capacity to learn and teach deeply in and through the arts. Under the direction of the school principals the BTS arts educator will develop a positive learning environment where students develop learning skills such as creativity, problem solving, critical thinking, and meaning making through arts-rich integration. The arts educator will work with each school to develop a side by side teaching and collaboration schedule to provide arts-rich integrated learning for all K-6 students and teachers.
Essential Functions
Build confidence in students to create and connect within a given art form and to apply arts skills to construct and demonstrate understanding in other subject areas.
Build capacity in educators to utilize arts pedagogies through collaboration and side by side teaching.
Develop and teach arts-rich integrated lessons with other classroom subjects for K-6 grade levels.
Advocate for effective arts programs as a member of the school wide arts team.
Actively participate as a member of collaborative learning team (PLC) to develop self and others.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of art form pedagogy and concepts, curriculum mapping and scaffolding.
Understanding of elementary grade-level curriculum.
Proficiency with computers and educational technology.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
Skilled in leading rehearsals and/or art creation processes.
Driven to engage in self-reflection and professional improvement, collaborate with students and teachers for best results, and lead efforts for improved arts experiences for all.
