Overview
The Department of Biology seeks a Facilities and Instrumentation Coordinator to support faculty, staff, and students in research and teaching. The position includes collaboration with faculty and students, and benefits from professional development and conference funding through the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning.
Responsibilities
Maintain, service, and repair laboratory equipment such as micropipettes, balances, microscopes, iSeq, DI filter systems, and IRMS.
Supervise work‑study students and facilitate prep‑room activities.
Order, receive, and inventory teaching laboratory supplies and equipment.
Manage grant budgets and procure supplies as directed by principal investigators.
Act as the department liaison with Academic Computing and Facilities Management.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field.
Or a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field with at least three years of experience equivalent to a Master’s degree.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a laboratory setting or in budgeting and management.
Strong organizational skills for routine equipment maintenance and readiness to troubleshoot unpredictable issues.
Experience managing undergraduate students and training them for shared departmental equipment.
Excellent communication skills.
Familiarity with common computer software, hardware, and account management.
Curiosity to learn about new equipment and software.
