Genetics Coordinator II - Chantilly, VA, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Pay range : $58,656+ per year

Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

Genetic testing and counseling are rapidly advancing areas of medical genetics, requiring extensive knowledge of the principles and practice of all areas of clinical and laboratory genetics as well as genetic counseling. The impact of genetic testing results for patients and their families are often complex and life changing, ranging from childbearing decisions to cancer prevention strategies. The Genetic Coordinator will aid the Genomic Services team and Operations to ensure that clients of Quest Diagnostics receive genetics services, both consultative and laboratory, of the highest quality possible. The Genetic Coordinator will support the Genomic Specialists and Operations staff in the Biochemical Genetics/Maternal Serum Screening, Cytogenetics, Somatic Oncology, and Molecular Genetics Laboratories, including Oncology, Neurology, and Non-invasive Prenatal testing. Under the direction of, or working with a Genomic Services member, they will be responsible for assisting genomic science specialists and liaisons in their roles of providing client service and support for laboratory and commercial operations.

Responsibilities

Be proficient in all Quest applications, processes, tools, and databases needed to perform daily functions.

Obtain information necessary for test code verifications.

Obtain clinical information on specific samples.

Assist with obtaining and summarizing phenotype and family history information on specific samples.

Assist in the creation, curation, and updating of various clinical databases.

Create and maintain disease/gene crosswalk tools for genetic panels.

Perform literature searches and contribute to published abstracts and manuscripts.

Obtain clinical outcome data for targeted assays.

Triaging calls to the genetic counselor team when appropriate.

Coordination of testing for the Family Insight Program.

Coordination of sample approval and submission for family studies.

Functions as liaison with inter- and intra-clinical department members.

Coordination of high touch and high complexity sample testing.

Participation on various committees to create, organize and implement strategies to promote and drive the desired culture throughout the organization.

Function as a resource for problem solving and process improvement for new software applications.

Functions as liaison with various lab acquisitions.

Participate in regular meetings with GCs in various specialties to gain knowledge, monitor efficiency and evaluate work processes and problem resolution.

Independently monitor and oversee inquiries from multiple specialty mailboxes.

Participate in mentoring and educating genetic counseling students rotating through the laboratory.

May assist in recruiting, interviewing, and training new Genomic Coordinator or Genomic Client Service Specialist employees.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

BA/BS degree preferred; 2-4 years of experience in customer service

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Working knowledge of PC operation, including Microsoft Office Suite

Proven ability to accomplish tasks both independently and as a member of a team

Proven ability to prioritize and take initiative

Excellent critical thinking skills
