MITIGATION TECHNICIAN
As a
Mitigation Technician , you are a vital part of our emergency response team. You’ll assist in mitigation efforts in the field, support Lead Technician on-site, and ensure that emergency services are executed with urgency, professionalism, and technical excellence. This role requires strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and a commitment to high-quality outcomes.
This is a field-based, fast-response role based out of one of our branch locations. You will report directly to the Branch Manager and coordinate closely with Leader Mitigation Technicians and Emergency Service Coordinator.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
EMERGENCY RESPONSE & MITIGATION EXECUTION
Respond on-site to water, mold, and storm damage emergencies
Perform mitigation services including demo, extraction, drying, and cleanup under supervision
Set up and monitor drying equipment (air movers, dehumidifiers, etc.)
Follow IICRC standards and job‑specific instructions from the Lead Technician
Assist with moisture readings, drying logs, and daily job tasks
Maintain PPE use, safety standards, and jobsite cleanliness at all times
JOBSITE SUPPORT & ORGANIZATION
Load/unload trucks and organize tools, materials, and supplies
Maintain cleanliness and readiness of vehicles and equipment
Support in taking before/after photos, ITEL samples, and completing work authorizations
Execute assigned tasks with accuracy, speed, and professionalism
Conduct daily job site walk-throughs and quality checks
Maintain job site readiness, vehicle organization, and equipment tracking
Communicate with ESC on job progress, resource needs, and field updates
Support coordination with the Emergency Service Coordinator for estimate support
DOCUMENTATION & SOFTWARE
Learn to operate software platforms like DASH, MICA, and Moisture Mapper
Upload jobsite photos, notes, and readings as directed
Assist in keeping digital records audit-ready and aligned with carrier expectations
CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE & COMMUNICATION
Serve as the main point of contact for customers on-site
Set clear expectations, answer questions, and resolve concerns professionally
Ensure work authorizations, COS forms, and other documents are signed and submitted
Support the Lead Technician in setting expectations and maintaining communication
Always represent Merit with professionalism and empathy
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT & GROWTH
Complete IICRC WRT & ASD certification (company-supported) within the first year
Attend jobsite training and team sessions to build technical knowledge
Show initiative, ask questions, and take pride in the work being done
Grow toward becoming a Lead Mitigation Technician through performance and commitment
QUALIFICATIONS
Entry-level or 6–12 months experience in construction, labor, or restoration
IICRC WRT & ASD certification (preferred) or willingness to earn it within 12 months
Experienced with drying equipment, moisture meters, and mitigation best practices
Excellent communicator with the ability to lead, train, and inspire others
Physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs., climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces
Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
Available for rotating on-call shifts, including nights and weekends
