Job Description
Qualifications:
Kentucky certificate
Job Goal:
To ensure that all children are reading at grade level before exiting the primary program.
Performance Responsibilities
1. Keeps abreast of developments in curriculum and instruction and furnishes leadership in determining what should be included in the schools educational program.
2. Studies and evaluates and recommends new instructional materials, methods and program for the primary program.
3. Prepares necessary inventories and maintains such records to insurance that all children are mastering the necessary skills to exit the program.
4. Directs and coordinates the instructional programs in the school-works cooperatively with the district supervisory staff to implement the total instructional program.
5. Maintains reading documentation on all students in the school, which he/she serves.
6. Assist with on-going programs of testing and assessment in the school
7. Provide leadership in all aspects of reading, and monthly evaluate the progress of all primary students in the school.
8. Develop, monitor and maintain appropriate documentation of skills that have been mastered by the child.
9. Meet monthly with central office staff to discuss ways of improving the program.
10. Do long range planning and implementation of a sound reading program.
11. Help develop and implement a district procedure for the review and evaluation of reading program.
12. In cooperation with the Principal, provides leadership in the development of a coordinated and correlated program of instruction in the school.
13. Helps classroom teachers diagnose and plan prescriptive instruction for students.
14. Keeps informed on modern educational trends, philosophy, and developments in the area of reading.
15. Works with and supports innovative educational practices and programs.
16. Eavluates pupils' academic and social growth and recommends to the classroom teacher appropriate feedback.
17. Makes recommendation to the teacher and principal of appropriate use of the classroom aide and chapter instructor to promote success for the child.
18. Prepares qualitative reporting; the child's progress is communicated to his/her teacher and principal with a focus on growth and development of the whole child.
19. Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
20. Participates in faculty meetings of the school.
21. Selects and recommends appropriate materials to be used in the instruction of the child.
22. Recommends and adapts curriculum to provide, individual, small group, or remedial instruction to meet the needs of the individual pupil.
23. Maintains professional competence through professional development activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
24. Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the superintendent/ principal.
