Overview
Saint Patrick Catholic School is currently seeking a Middle School Teacher to nurture and support 7th-8th-grade students in their personal and academic growth, beginning in August 2026-2027.

Responsibilities
Design and implement comprehensive unit plans that align with the Saint Patrick Catholic Schools curriculum standards for History and Social Science (including Civics & Economics).
Utilize research-based instructional strategies—such as primary source analysis, Socratic seminars, and document-based questions (DBQs)—to develop students’ historical thinking skills (sourcing, contextualizing, corroborating).
Cultivate students' understanding of civic rights and duties through simulations (e.g., mock trials, legislative debates), current events analysis, and service-learning projects that promote active citizenship.
Translate lesson plans into varied learning experiences that accommodate diverse learning styles, including scaffolding for students with learning differences and enrichment for advanced learners.
Effectively integrate digital tools (e.g., Google Workspace for Education, Canvas, online historical archives) to enhance instruction and build digital literacy skills.
Conduct ongoing formative and summative assessments to monitor student mastery; analyze data to modify instructional methods and provide targeted individual or small-group interventions.
Provide timely, constructive, and actionable feedback on student work. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of grades and attendance in the school’s Student Information System (SIS).
Promote a classroom environment that is safe, respectful, and intellectually stimulating, ensuring all students feel valued and empowered to share diverse perspectives.
Manage student behavior effectively in accordance with school policy, fostering a culture of self-discipline and mutual respect.
Maintain proactive and professional communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress and curriculum goals through weekly newsletters, emails, and conferences.
Coordinate with grade-level peers and the History Department to ensure vertical alignment of the curriculum and cross-curricular connections (e.g., aligning with Language Arts for research papers).
Actively participate in the school’s spiritual life, including attending Mass, leading prayer, and integrating Catholic social teaching into the history curriculum where appropriate.
Engage in professional development opportunities, including seminars and workshops, to stay current with developments in history education and pedagogy.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in History, Social Studies Education, Political Science, or related field
Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience, preferably in middle or high School
Experience with classroom management and working with digital technologies
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, possess strong interpersonal skills, and be able to solve problems without sacrificing relationships
Preferred Qualifications
Strong command of U.S. History, Civics/Economics concepts appropriate for middle school learners
Master's degree in History, Education, or related field
Licensed by the Virginia Department of Education
