Position Summary
This position is for a candidate interested in working with and providing instruction to students with disabilities in a Special Education or General Education setting. The candidate must understand a wide range of disabilities, including but not limited to Learning Disability, Intellectual Disability, Emotional Disturbance, Other Health Impairment, Hard of Hearing/Deaf, and Visual Impairment. The candidate must have some knowledge and/or experience with Behavior Modification Strategies, I.D.E.A. and Multi‑Tiered Systems of Support. Compliance, confidentiality and communication are required characteristics of an individual in this position.

Qualifications

Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily

Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from a four‑year college or university

Special Education teaching certificate; Mild/Moderate Certificate and/or Severe/Profound Certificate

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small‑group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil per their IEP services.

Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.

Evaluate pupils’ academic and social growth, individually and in small group; keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports per IEP and District requirements.

Communicate with parents through IEP conferences and other means to discuss pupils’ progress and interpret the school program.

Maintain professional competence through in‑service education activities provided by the district and self‑selected professional growth activities.

Supervise pupils in out‑of‑classroom activities during the assigned working day.

Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities.

Complete all paperwork, district and state special education forms, in a timely manner so Federal compliance timelines are met.

Work with the General Education regular classroom teacher to provide appropriate accommodations for students on an IEP.

Additional duties that may be assigned by the immediate supervisor or above.

Skills
Language and Grammar Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to compose and write grammatically correct correspondence and memos.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, schedule form, or blueprint form.

Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, extreme cold (including outdoors), extreme heat (including direct sunlight), risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment will vary from somewhat loud to extremely loud. To ensure continuity of services, a different work location may be necessary in the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school and/or office buildings. An employee’s eligibility for a varied work location will be determined by the superintendent of schools. Expectations and guidelines for this change will be distributed by the employee’s supervisor, based on his/her role and responsibilities.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Employee may occasionally be required to supervise a varying number of employees in the overall direction, coordination, and completion of tasks as assigned.
