The Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) is a Department of War organization focused exclusively on accelerating the adoption of commercial technology throughout the military and growing the national‑security innovation base. As the Department’s gateway to leading technology companies across the country, DIU is focused on rapid prototyping, fielding, and scaling of commercial solutions that can save lives, lead to new operational concepts, increase efficiency, and save taxpayer dollars.
DIU has a variety of missions which bring academic and private sector solutions to national‑security problems. To accomplish these missions, we seek a wide variety of backgrounds including military experience, high‑technology product development and leadership, operations expertise, and general program‑management experience.
Federal Civilian Positions in Program Management
Responsibilities include:
Manage cost, schedule, and performance of agreements to research, develop, evaluate, modify, and deliver commercial technology to accelerate warfighting advantage and solve operational problems.
Seek out technology opportunities, manage agreement performance, and plan transition for broader Department adoption.
Provide authoritative recommendations, briefings, and other formal and informal feedback and status to management on all aspects of the agreement, commercial technical performance, and for all significant decision points.
Plan, organize, and coordinate activities with functional specialists, including contracting, engineering, configuration management, and test.
Positions may be located in Mountain View, CA or in the National Capital Region.
