Job Description
We’re currently searching for an Office Service Specialist to join our Schiffert Health Center team in Blacksburg, VA. This role supports the health and wellbeing of the student population by caring for them during illness or injury.

Key Responsibilities

Serve in a multifunction capacity within the Medical Records/Receptionist office to assure expedient and friendly patient flow.

Verify eligibility for services, compile, file, maintain, and transfer student health records, and fulfill legal and accreditation standards.

Provide patient and visitor information and direction in a pleasant and efficient manner.

Determine patient needs and schedule appointments or immediate referrals to clinical personnel as appropriate, and enter data as required for immunizations and medical records.

Report to the Office Manager and perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Ability to exercise good judgment and initiative in accomplishing duties.

Ability to deal diplomatically, efficiently, helpfully and pleasantly with the public, both in person and on the telephone in diverse situations.

Ability to interpret and follow written and oral instructions and to make decisions on medical referrals based on written protocols and verbal instructions.

Strong oral communication skills and an outgoing manner with the ability to interact and maintain effective working relationships with patients, the general public and SHC staff.

Experience in dealing with the public and experience in a medical setting with demonstrated basic knowledge of medical terminology.

Basic computer experience and knowledge desired.

Knowledge of Virginia immunization requirements.

Previous experience in a medical office setting.

Preferred Qualifications

Extensive experience working in a medical office setting; basic knowledge of medical terminology and electronic medical records.

Compensation and Benefits
Base salary: $39,000 to $42,700 annually. Comprehensive benefits package includes health insurance, paid leave, retirement, tuition assistance, VTC discounts, and more.

Appointment & Schedule
Regular, non‑exempt position eligible for overtime. Monday–Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm; occasional Saturdays 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. 40 hours per week.

Additional Information
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
