Description

Pomfret School seeks an Assistant Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to advance its commitment to a student-centered, inclusive community. Grounded in Pomfret’s mission and values, this role focuses on student engagement, community development, and the integration of inclusive practices into daily school life.
Reporting to the Dean of DEI, the Assistant Dean is a visible, relational leader who collaborates across the school to ensure every student experiences a strong sense of belonging.
Job Purpose

To support a school culture where every student experiences belonging by translating community values into consistent, developmentally appropriate practice.
Requirements

Key Responsibilities

Partner with the Dean of DEI to design and implement school-wide programming aligned with institutional priorities, including climate initiatives and community assessments
Advise and support student unity groups to ensure sustainability, alignment, and student leadership development
Serve as a visible presence in student life, including residential settings, student activities, assemblies, and community events
Support students navigating identity, belonging, and community-related experiences
Collaborate with faculty and staff to strengthen inclusive practices and student support systems
Contribute to the development of community expectations, including restorative practices and Growth and Accountability Plans (GAP)
Work across Student Life, Academics, Athletics, and Residential Life to identify and improve systems that impact student experience
Assist in planning and execution of key community programs (e.g., QUEST, MLK Day, CultureFest, VOICE, and related initiatives)
Support the coordination and use of the Virginia Eaton Multicultural Resource Center
Uphold all school policies and contribute positively to Pomfret’s culture and community standards
Perform additional duties as needed

Residential Life & Community Engagement
This role may include participation in the residential life program and require regular engagement in the full life of the school, including evenings and weekends

It may be combined with teaching and coaching to become a full-time position.
