Functional Title - Potomac Electrical & Mechanical Maintenance Manager
Reports to - Superintendent
Full or Part Time - Full Time
Regular or Temporary - Regular
Work Schedule - Monday Friday, 5:30am-2:00 pm
Position Location - Potomac
General Summary - The Potomac Electrical & Mechanical Maintenance Manager plans, manages and supervises electrical and mechanical maintenance functions for the plant. This role works closely and collaboratively with the Chief Plant Operator and Plant Engineering Section Manager to ensure the highest reliability of all electrical and mechanical equipment and apparatuses at the facilities.
Essential Functions - Supervises employees including selecting or recommending selection, training, assigning and evaluating work, counseling, disciplining, and/or termination or recommending termination Screens and interviews job applicants, prepares evaluations, recommends disciplinary actions, approves timesheets, discusses grievances with Shop Steward, recommends relevant training Plans, assigns, manages and supervises the maintenance of electrical and mechanical process equipment of a plant or Division, reviews the work of others, and establishes priorities Serves as a subject matter expert to determine if a person is qualified to perform a skilled task within the Production Department Career Ladder program Performs planning and scheduling activities for corrective and preventive maintenance work Oversees or takes the lead in the more difficult electrical or mechanical maintenance activities Installs pumps, motors, pipes, valves, and electrical controls necessary to make a new pumping unit functional Determines nature and extent of repairs and work sequences Promotes safe work practices and investigates accidents Confers with manufacturer representatives to explore new products and techniques Recommends items to be included in the budget Oversees the plant or group preventative maintenance program Requisitions appropriate materials, and keeps abreast of availability of parts and equipment Prepares a variety of reports and procedures, maintains detailed records Reviews work orders for accuracy and completeness Repairs and maintains motor controls and equipment up to 5KV including synchronous motors and variable speed controls Repairs and maintains substation equipment up to 69KV including oil circuit breakers and transformers Installs, maintains, repairs, and tests electrical systems, electric shop equipment and internal electrical power distribution facilities Repairs and maintains pneumatic and hydraulic control systems on valves and bubbler systems Installs a wide variety of other electrical or mechanical equipment Stays current with technological advances and regulations in the electrical, mechanical, and electronic fields and industries Performs inspections at new facilities to assure equipment is working properly and in accordance with specifications and provides guidance to contractors on their work Confers with Project Managers and makes recommendations on design projects Coordinates with utility companies to install new services or to make repairs to existing services Participates in the Production Department E/M Duty Program Drives a vehicle to conduct WSSC Water business

Work Environment And Physical Demands - Work is performed at a large water treatment plant
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities - Thorough knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment of the electrical/mechanical trade Thorough knowledge of construction, installation, operation and maintenance of electrical/mechanical systems, including installation and/or modification of all sizes of electrical conduit, cables, wires, switches, automatic starting equipment, etc. Thorough knowledge of defects and faults in electrical wiring & appliances and corrective measures Ability to work from drawings, schematics & specifications, including designing electrical installations of lighting, pumping stations and general type construction Ability to use maintenance management programs to assist with planning and scheduling activities Some knowledge of electronic repair practices and methods Skill in the use of tools and adjusting defects in electrical and mechanical systems and equipment Ability to plan and review the work of others Good interpersonal communication skills
Minimum Education, Experience Requirements - High School diploma or equivalent 5+ years of journey level electrical/mechanical technician or specialist experience
Additional Requirements - Possession of a valid driver's license, with no more than 4 points, and the ability to obtain and maintain a WSSC Water driver's permit within 90 days of hire or transfer date Completion of the WSSC Water Financial Disclosure statement within 30 days of employment and annually thereafter Employees in this position are designated or considered emergency personnel; therefore, the employee must report to work as scheduled or as directed by their supervisor when WSSC Water declares an event that requires emergency personnel to report to work
Preferences - Supervisory experience 5+ years of master electrical/mechanical technician or specialist experience or high voltage experience (5 KV and greater) Completion of 2 years of college with course work in electrical/mechanical maintenance theory and practices or business management.
Salary - $108,056 - $183,987
