Deputy Group Leader - (Manufacturing Manager 3 Process Maintenance and Decontami

What You Will Do
You will serve as a key leader within a mission-critical maintenance organization supporting plutonium process equipment in a highly regulated nuclear environment. As Deputy Group Leader, you will partner with senior leadership to ensure work is executed safely, securely, and efficiently in support of national security objectives. This role requires a visible, engaged leader who builds team capability, reinforces accountability, and leads with humility. You will balance strategic planning with hands‑on field leadership while driving a strong safety‑first culture. This role is best suited for a leader who thrives in complex environments, values team development as much as mission delivery, and consistently prioritizes safety over schedule.

Process Maintenance & Decontamination Services (PMDS) provides a comprehensive and integrated maintenance program supporting plutonium process equipment for DOE Nuclear facilities. Glove box and programmatic process equipment maintenance activities are performed by PMDS as directed by the owning/operating groups in compliance with Conduct of Engineering (CoE), Conduct of Operations (CoO), and Conduct of Maintenance (CoM) policies.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements

Demonstrated leadership experience in nuclear, high-hazard, or complex maintenance environments

Proven ability to lead with a safety‑first mindset, including application of integrated safety management principles

Experience executing work within nuclear regulatory frameworks (e.g., 10 CFR 830, 10 CFR 835)

Strong experience planning and executing maintenance work (scope, schedule, and resources)

Demonstrated ability to lead teams through accountability, coaching, and performance management

Experience integrating work across multiple organizations and technical disciplines

Working knowledge of nuclear facility authorization basis and compliance requirements

Experience managing work packages, operational priorities, and resource constraints

Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a fast‑paced, high‑consequence environment with shifting priorities

Demonstrated leadership approach that reflects humility, sound judgment, and a willingness to learn

Ability to obtain a Department of Energy Q clearance

Education/Experience: Position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 5 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

DOE Order 426.2A
Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or related science or technology, and 4 years of nuclear experience. Job‑related education or experience may be substituted on a case‑by‑case basis. The degree may be used to substitute up to 50 percent of the experience requirement per section I 4.e of the Contractor Requirements Document (CRD).

Desired Qualifications

Active Department of Energy Q clearance

Experience in plutonium facilities

Experience leading maintenance in 24/7 or shift‑based operations

Advanced knowledge of maintenance work management (planning through closeout)

Experience with electrical, instrumentation, or control systems

Experience in project or program management

Experience working with multidisciplinary technical teams

Knowledge of integrated work management and safety systems

Knowledge of classified matter protection, cybersecurity, and human reliability requirements

Ability to obtain and maintain Fissionable Material Handler certification

Demonstrated leadership style grounded in humility, accountability, and continuous learning

Work Schedule
This position may require 24/7 coverage, including shift or weekend schedules. Employees may be eligible for shift differential pay when assigned by their manager.

Essential Job Functions
Ability to speak, reading vision, sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, climbing ladders, twisting the trunk or back, bending, kneeling, balancing, applying torque with hands or arms, use of both hands, use of both arms, carrying 10-20 pounds, lifting 30+ pounds.

Work Environment
Working overtime or irregular schedule, working off shift/rotating schedule, working near sources of ionizing radiation, working near machinery and moving parts, domestic/foreign travel, mask or respirator, safety glasses and eye protection, gloves or hand protection, hearing protection, safety shoes or protective foot gear.

Work Location
The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment
Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry‑level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

New-Employment Drug Test
The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre‑offer.

Regular position
Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Incentive Compensation Program
Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
