
Department Supervisor

Job Summary
The Lab Supervisor is responsible for supervising all lab mechanical testing including tensile, impacts, root guided bend testing, chemical analysis, hardness testing, micro hardness testing, grain size evaluations, and weld profiles. The role includes reviewing all HTL folders and releasing lots upon meeting all requirements, managing hourly employees' schedules, attendance, vacations, and disciplinary actions.
Main Responsibilities
Verify that the test samples and data entered in SAP are released from quality status in less than 24 hours.
Ensure tensile tests are completed within 1 hour of receiving the sample from HTL.
Verify test folders contain all required sheets, results, and compliance with standard procedures.
Define priorities to address requirements for HTL, TTL, and Shipping.
Maintain traceability of all test specimens and records.
Report test results and enter data into the database.
Ensure all products are tested and meet specifications and customer requirements.
Coordinate testing of outsourced collapse samples without interfering with current TTL production.
Assist in special products to improve production and weld integrity.
Collaborate with quality supervisors in Mill and TTL to analyze weld defects.
Monitor equipment, materials, and departmental resources, and recommend repairs, replacements, or procurement as needed.
Participate in accident, injury, or incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental, quality, and other applicable regulations.
Support continuous improvement initiatives and cost‑control measures.
Perform hands‑on operational duties as needed.
Complete additional assignments as directed by management.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree, technical training, trade certification, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
1–5 years of experience in manufacturing, industrial, warehouse, maintenance, or related environment; prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
Area‑specific technical knowledge relevant to assigned department.
Working knowledge of safety regulations (e.g., OSHA), quality standards, and company policies.
Strong leadership, organizational, and decision‑making skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate policies and expectations clearly to employees.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and ability to use company operational systems (e.g., SAP or other ERP systems).
Ability to analyze data, production schedules, and performance metrics.
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to follow job and safety requirements.
Physical Requirements
Regularly required to stand and walk for extended periods.
Frequently required to use hands, reach with arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
Occasionally required to sit.
Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to work in a manufacturing/industrial environment with exposure to moving mechanical parts, varying temperatures, and noise levels.
