POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW

Institution: University of Texas Rio Grande Valley – Institute for Advanced Manufacturing (IAM). Location: Edinburg, TX. This is a full‑time exempt, FLSA position with a salary commensurate with experience.
Scope of Job

Plan, conduct, and analyze research projects in metallurgy, materials for fusion energy, additive manufacturing, AI in manufacturing and autonomous experimentation. Work independently with minimal supervision under the guidance of a faculty mentor.
Description of Duties

Develop, test, and analyze research results through empirical and computational methods.
Design and implement evaluation plans and progress reports.
Conduct background research and publish peer‑reviewed papers.
Assist in the development of research instruments, test new processes, and disseminate discoveries.
Implement training activities and maintain accurate data.
Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Supervision Received

General direction from the assigned supervisor.
Required Education

Doctoral degree from an accredited university (may need to have been conferred within a set period prior to position start).
Preferred Education

None specified.
Required Experience

Research experience in metallurgy and metal additive manufacturing.
Preferred Experience

Publications on metallurgy, materials science, AI, and advanced manufacturing processes.
Equipment

Use of LPBF, Laser DED, WAAM, Cold Spray System, SME, XRD and related testing equipment.
Proficiency in research statistical software and PC usage.
Working Conditions

Office/research environment; some travel and weekend work required. Presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

Full‑time, FLSA exempt.
Minimum Salary

Commensurate with experience.
