
Full Time Custodian

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, orderly, and welcoming school environment for students, staff, families, and visitors. This position supports the daily operations of the school through custodial services, light maintenance, event support, safety monitoring, and grounds upkeep.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Cleaning & Sanitation
Clean, sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and sanitize classrooms, offices, hallways, cafeterias, restrooms, common areas, and other assigned spaces.
Clean and refinish floors, including waxing, buffing, and spot treatment as needed.
Clean windows, stairwells, doors, walls, and other interior surfaces.
Sanitize lavatories, furniture, appliances, fixtures, and high-touch surfaces.
Replenish restroom and custodial supplies including paper products, soap, and sanitizer.
Remove trash and recycling from interior and exterior areas.
Maintenance & Repairs
Perform routine preventive maintenance and minor repairs to facilities, furniture, and equipment.
Replace light bulbs, ballasts, ceiling tiles, glass, and other basic building components.
Complete painting, touch-up work, and light carpentry projects.
Identify and report larger repair needs, safety concerns, or facility issues promptly.
Maintain tools, custodial equipment, and assigned work areas in clean and proper working condition.
Grounds & Exterior Upkeep
Keep sidewalks, entrances, parking areas, playgrounds, and lawns free of litter and debris.
Perform snow and ice removal, including shoveling, salting, and sanding walkways and entrances.
Support seasonal exterior maintenance as assigned.
Operational Support
Move furniture, equipment, and supplies as needed.
Set up and break down spaces for meetings, events, school functions, and community use.
Receive, organize, and deliver supplies and materials throughout the building.
Assist with inventory tracking, supply requests, and maintenance logs.
Safety & Security
Follow all workplace safety procedures and proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
Support school safety efforts by monitoring assigned areas, including playgrounds and common spaces when needed.
Assist with arrival, dismissal, and traffic duties as assigned.
Participate in emergency response procedures and building drills as directed.
Other Duties
Attend required trainings and professional development sessions.
Perform other duties as reasonably assigned by the Facilities Manager or school administration.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum of three (3) years of custodial, facilities, maintenance, or related experience preferred.
Experience in a school, commercial, or institutional setting preferred.
Knowledge of custodial methods, cleaning equipment, and building maintenance practices.
Knowledge of workplace safety standards and regulations applicable to public buildings.
Ability to lift and move equipment, furniture, and supplies consistent with job duties.
Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and respond to urgent needs.
Strong reliability, punctuality, and attention to detail.
Ability to work effectively with staff, students, families, and visitors in a diverse school community.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, climbing stairs, and reaching.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and more with assistance.
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
