Job Summary
Under general supervision, performs a variety of work activities while providing customer service in the operation of a recreational, historic or natural resource park; interprets natural features of the area, or historic objects/artifacts for visitors; and ensures public safety by enforcing park rules and regulations.
Responsibilities
Work independently and with others.
Provide excellent customer service to all visitors.
Collect fees by following proper policies and procedures for cash handling and processing credit cards.
Use reservation software to assist customers, collect fees, and conduct compliance.
Clean restrooms, repair small equipment, perform basic carpentry and electrical repairs, and maintain landscaping.
Complete all required training and any additional duties in a timely manner.
Operate and maintain vehicles, UTVs, and equipment including hand and power tools and landscape equipment.
Promote public safety by educating the public on park rules and regulations.
Lead seasonal employees and volunteers on various park projects.
Assist in managing any emergency situation that may occur in the park.
Interpret natural features of the area and historic objects/artifacts for visitors.
Respect, advocate, and educate the importance of preservation and cultural resources.
Work outdoors in the summer heat.
This position must be able to work weekends, holidays, evenings and could possibly relocate to another state park seasonally and/or permanently.

Job Duties
Outdoor Recreation & Programs
Hosts visitors; conducts interpretive programs and may lead guided walks or hikes.
Provides information in response to visitor questions, direction, guidance, and concerns.
Customer Service
Provides customer service by phone and in-person and responds to public inquiries about park hours, accommodations, reservations.
Cash Handling
Performs cashier duties at Contact Station/Gift Shop; collects and accounts for fees for park admission and store purchases.
Public & Staff Safety
Promotes the safety of park visitors and enforces park rules and protects park resources.
Utilizes two‑way radio communications system; consults with local officials and law enforcement officers; completes all necessary reports concerning incidents.
Other duties
Maintains campgrounds, picnic areas, trails, and other recreational sites, including litter removal, trail maintenance, landscaping, and hauling debris.
Maintains visitor center and all restrooms in clean, sanitary conditions; sweeps and mops floors; restocks towels, toilet paper, soap dispensers.
Performs basic maintenance on campsite amenities, buildings, vehicles, and various implements.
Might lead and assist in training other staff and volunteers.
Other duties as assigned related to the position.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)
Knowledge of:
Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services; park rules, regulations, fees, and revenue functions; techniques for displaying and interpreting objects/artifacts and general resources to visitors; general office procedures; basic first aid training; basic construction, custodial, maintenance ability; computer skills.
Skills in:
Public relations and information dissemination; customer service; active listening; critical thinking; driving and operating automotive equipment; basic custodial techniques; oral and written communication; public speaking; basic building and vehicle maintenance skills; first aid and emergency response.
Ability to:
Research natural or historical information; perform math calculations; work in teams and maintain interpersonal relationships; multitask; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; work weekends, holidays, night shifts, and outside in extreme temperatures; help maintain buildings, vehicles, and grounds; enforce rules and regulations; maintain professional demeanor in emergencies or high‑stress situations; physically endure hiking 5 or more miles per day with approximately 1,600 feet of elevation gain while carrying equipment up to 20 pounds.
Selective Preference(s)
Two years of experience equivalent to a Park Ranger Specialist; or three years of work experience in customer service; or a Bachelor's degree in Park Management, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, or a closely related field. Any combination of training and experience that meets knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted.
Pre-Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a current Arizona Driver’s license appropriate to assignment.
Some positions may require certification as an Emergency Medical Technician, Water Distribution and Treatment Systems Operator, and/or Certified Interpretive Guide.
