Position Description Summary
Exploration Ground Systems (EGS) Quality Assurance Specialist 3 role located at Kennedy Space Center, FL. The incumbent will perform quality assurance, oversight/insight surveillance, and provide QAS support to the EGS Program in SA-F division.
Responsibilities
Perform insight/oversight of processing for the EGS Program, focusing on processing critical flight hardware and Ground System Equipment (GSE). Work with systems including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic.
Audit, assess, and proof quality management system (QMS) procedures, work procedures, and operational processes to ensure products/services meet quality and engineering requirements.
Inspect, surveil, and verify requirement compliance during fabrication, assembly, test, and checkout of aerospace flight hardware and GSE.
Accept flight hardware/GSE, perform receiving inspections, and review Acceptance Data Packs.
Evaluate and trend contractor data for compliance with applicable requirements.
Monitor contractor processing schedules to identify operations suitable for surveillance inspections and In-Line Assessments.
Support development/implementation of structured surveillance programs and risk-based quality models.
Evaluate adequacy, compliance, and effectiveness of the contractor\'s QMS activities and provide input to SA-F Quality management regarding contractor performance.
Perform Government Mandatory Inspection Points (GMIPs), In-Line Assessments (ILAs), surveillances, and track associated nonconformances.
Mentor and lead less experienced QA personnel; provide QA crossover support to Quality Engineers (QE) as needed.
Identify quality, safety issues, and potential concerns requiring documentation and remediation.
Be capable of taking on new tasks with minimal direction and independently scope new assignments through to completion.
Required Experience/Education
Education:
High School Diploma
Experience:
7 years of Quality Assurance experience with complex systems
Background in aerospace industry or military experience; familiarity with systems used on aerospace or aircraft vehicles
Security Clearance Requirement
Must be able to qualify for an unescorted badge (US Citizen required) and be able to pass a background investigation & drug test.
Preferred Experience
Quality background with experience overseeing operations associated with complex systems (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, etc.)
Experience in supporting and/or leading Quality Management System audits
Technical background with aerospace industry or military work experience and familiarity with systems used on aircraft or aerospace vehicles
Ability to read and interpret drawings, requirements, and specifications
Experience monitoring/evaluating contractor processing activities
Clear, accurate, and concise communication and writing skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and similar applications
Good social skills and ability to work well with teams
Essential Job Functions
Work Environment:
Full time, 40+ hours per week when required, including periodic extended shifts, weekends, holidays, and shift changes (1st, 2nd, or 3rd as required).
Work in excess of 40 hours per week (concurrent time or OT when approved) may be required.
Work in non-environmentally controlled areas; work at heights with fall protection; occasional confinement.
Travel Requirements:
May require domestic travel
Physical Requirements:
Extended periods of standing, stooping, and bending; ability to climb stairs; ability to lift >15 lbs.
Other Essential Functions:
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, make rational decisions, and exercise good judgment.
Appropriate work attire required to ensure safety.
