About the Role
The Cashier provides extraordinary customer service through speedy and accurate recording of merchandise at the check stand. This role operates the cash register, balances the till, bags groceries, stocks merchandise, and helps keep the front-end area clean and organized. Cashiers ensure every customer interaction is positive while following Vallarta’s standards for accuracy, safety, and service.
Responsibilities
Smile and greet all customers and team members while using Vallarta’s six steps of extraordinary service.
Model Vallarta’s Core Values: customer service, commitment, integrity, respect, humility, and teamwork.
Operate cash register systems accurately and follow all money handling procedures.
Balance the cash drawer at the start and end of shifts within company timeframes.
Keep the check stand clean, organized, and free of clutter; store personal items in lockers.
Maintain knowledge of all produce codes; walk the produce department at the start of each shift.
Follow rules for WIC, EBT, alcohol, and tobacco sales according to state and company policies.
Bag groceries according to Vallarta procedures and customers’ requests.
Watch for and properly handle items stored at the bottom of carts.
Respond to customer requests; call for management assistance when needed.
Offer carry‑out assistance for large or heavy orders.
Follow dress code, grooming, jewelry, and nail policies.
Maintain safety and housekeeping standards at the front end.
Treat coworkers and customers respectfully at all times.
Abide by all store rules, company policies, and Employee Handbook.
Take rest and meal breaks per company guidelines.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
Stand and walk constantly (6–8+ hours/day). Frequently bend neck/waist, twist, and reach above/below shoulders. Frequent hand use for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation. Lift and carry up to 25 lbs. frequently, up to 50 lbs. occasionally. Heaviest item required to carry: 27 lbs. (case of water), carried up to 3 feet. All pallets must be pulled/pushed by two people using manual pallet jacks. No driving, heavy machinery, uneven ground, or exposure to noise/fumes required.
Qualifications
Friendly, courteous personality with strong customer service skills.
Ability to count and perform simple math accurately.
Ability to identify and differentiate produce items and codes.
Must successfully complete Vallarta Supermarkets Cashier Training Program.
Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.
Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
Fast‑paced retail front‑end with direct customer interaction.
Exposure to perishable products and changing conditions.
Collaborative, team‑focused environment.
Must work flexible schedule: afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
