Summer Pastoral Intern: St. Roch Community Church

Reformed Theological Seminary, New Orleans, LA, United States

Job Description

St. Roch Community Church is offering a 4-5 week paid, pastoral internship that is tailored for someone either well‑established in ministry, or someone fairly new to formal ministry but in training at a seminary or Bible college. SRCC is a church within the Presbyterian Church in America, but it is not required that one subscribe to the denomination or hold a formal office as an elder. This position is open to male and female candidates.
The internship experience includes the following emphases:
Youth Focus : Join with SRCC staff in connecting with school‑aged children and teens around VBS style camps. Tasks would include classroom prep, observation of Sunday school classes, and opportunities to lead activities and teach lessons.
Neighborhood & City Focus : Join with SRCC’s posture of being both host and guest in the neighborhood. As host, the pastoral intern will join in works of hospitality through our cafe and church events; as guest, the pastoral intern will join in partnership activities with neighbors, gardens, and neighborhood organizations.
Fellowship Focus : The pastoral intern will join in the life rhythms of the congregation in table fellowship, outings, and gatherings.
Teach & Preaching Focus : The pastoral intern will join with Pastor Jason Davison in planning a summer preaching series, as well as teaching Wednesday Bible Study. The pastoral intern will have at least two opportunities to preach and two opportunities to lead the Wednesday study.
Embedded within this short internship is the opportunity to meet regularly with the Pastor and leadership—as well as to take time to rest and contemplate. Contemplatively, this internship has an optional culminating project of writing a short paper that reflects on the intersection of the intern’s beliefs, values, and ecclesiology in a changing urban environment.
Salary: $3500 (+$1000 support for housing if we can’t arrange ourselves) for the 4-5 week internship. Standard deductions for social security and other applicable taxes will be made. The intern is expected to work approximately 32 hours, five days per week including Sundays, with two days off each week. Vacation days are not included due to the limited duration of the internship, but requests for time off will be considered as needed.
