Summary
The primary purpose of a Family and Community Engagement Liaison is to collaborate with families, community members, and schools in order to build relationships that support student learning and achievement, family well‑being, and the continuous learning and development of children, families, and educators. The liaison will also support LPAC processes and compliance, maintain accurate records, and ensure adherence to state and federal guidelines related to Emergent Bilingual (EB) students.

Qualifications / Minimum Education / Certification

ESL/Bilingual instructional experience preferred

Working knowledge of LPAC processes, Emergent Bilingual programs, and compliance requirements preferred

Current knowledge and application of educational research on best practices

Experience facilitating learning opportunities for adults

Ability to speak, write, translate, and interpret effectively in both English and Spanish, and establish and maintain effective relationships with administrators, teachers, staff, students, and parents

Dedicated to the values of the school district and overall success of children and their families

Dedicated to developing strategic partnerships and building relationships with constituents within the community

Citizenship, residency or work visa required

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Collaborate with families so they are well equipped with best practices and information related to the educational process, including LPAC procedures, EB identification, language services, and reclassification processes

Engage and empower families and communities to advocate for all children and develop strategies to solve problems

Create and publish a newsletter every nine weeks, highlighting important information for parents, including bilingual/ESL programming

Serve as a translator and interpreter in written and verbal forms of district communication, including EB program placement discussions and parent conferences

Provide accurate translation of documents and communications from English to Spanish and Spanish to English to support family engagement and compliance

Actively recruit and engage parents and family members to become involved in the school and share their education and career experiences

Establish and maintain partnerships with businesses, faith‑based organizations, and community agencies

Attend district and regional meetings as required, including LPAC‑related trainings and compliance meetings

Establish an open, cooperative environment to ensure culturally diverse, relevant, and responsive communication between all parties

Refer parents to appropriate adult education programs (GED, ESL, etc.) and other community resources

Develop a network of support consisting of campus parent liaisons and district staff to ensure access to parent programming

Participate in and support Bilingual and ESL programming initiatives

Assist campuses with district newcomer programming

Assist at the Language Assessment Center to welcome, assess, and support placement of students

Support campuses with LPAC compliance procedures and parent communication as needed

Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor, consistent with the position’s general requirements

Mental / Physical / Environmental Demands
Maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional district‑wide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
