Summary Statement
Fleet Technicians provide direct customer service to state agencies, issuing vehicles, tracking and monitoring vehicle assignments, scheduling and coordinating preventive maintenance and repairs, inspecting vehicles for safety, serviceability, and cleanliness to ensure vehicles are in optimal condition. Basic knowledge of automotive systems and the ability to change tires, batteries, wipers, and light bulbs as needed. Ability to utilize computers and a smartphone is required.

Essential Functions
Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. Dispatches vehicles from a centralized motor pool; tracks and monitors vehicle assignments through the use of an automated information system.

Coordinates, arranges and delivers vehicles for routine service, repair and warranty activities to contractual automotive vendors following approved purchasing practices.

Creates and maintains work orders, enters repairs, parts, and labor descriptions into an automated information system, schedules work with vendors and estimates/calculates costs.

Inspects vehicles for safety, serviceability and cleanliness to ensure vehicles remain in optimum condition.

Performs routine maintenance activities such as adding oil or fluids, filling window washer reservoirs and checking and adjusting tire pressure; may change tires, batteries, filters or wiper blades when necessary.

Prepares and maintains records of vehicle activity.

Job Requirements for Fleet Services Technician
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

Knowledge of preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment such as lubricating, cleaning, and servicing.

Knowledge of using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.

Knowledge of record keeping.

Knowledge of math such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, or decimals.

Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Conditions of Hire
Pre‑employment Drug Testing: Upon a conditional offer, you must undergo pre‑employment drug testing as part of the hiring process.

All new hires are required to report to the Statewide New Employee Orientation (SNEO) on their first day of employment. Sessions are held at designated locations in Kent or New Castle County.
