General Definition of Work

A Pump Station Maintenance Technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of pumping systems, including pumps, motors, controls, and related equipment within a pumping station. They perform both preventative and corrective maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure the efficient and safe operation of the facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Includes the following, but not limited to:
Performs routine scheduled maintenance of equipment
Maintains records of maintenance activities
Reports the need for and documents major equipment repairs
This position is required to work overtime from time to time, as needed
May be asked to respond to calls for repairs outside of normal work hours.
Occupational and public health hazards and safety practices.
Pump, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
City's functions, policies, and procedures. Attention to detail.
Problem-solving skills. Time management.
Work on call day and night in inclement weather conditions; perform emergency standby duties on a rotating basis
Maybe exposed to confined space entry, use of self-contained breathing apparatus, heights (up to 60 feet), depths down to 26 feet, vibrations, and poor lighting.
Reliable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this role.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must have the ability to read and interpret documents, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform calculations as necessary for maintenance records.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Knowledge of equipment maintenance and operating practices.
Ability to inspect machinery in operation and detect flaws.
Ability to perform routine maintenance on machinery.
Ability to keep accurate records.
Ability to work in extreme weather conditions and may be exposed to noise, dust, fumes, gases, chemicals, solvents, grease or oils, electrical energy, slippery surfaces, uneven surfaces, or with moving objects, and odors. Maybe exposed to confined space entry, use of self-contained breathing
Education

A high school diploma or G.E.D is required.
Driver’s License

If candidate does not have a valid Tennessee driver's license, they must acquire one in 30 days of hire. CDL Training is available.
Experience

Must have a minimum of 1 years’ experience operating equipment.
Availability Requirements

Given the critical infrastructure role of the facility and the need to maintain essential staffing during events such as severe weather, power outages, or other emergency conditions, employees in this position must be available to work rotating shifts, including 24/7 assignments. This position is subject to on-call and call-back requirements, which may include work outside of normal business hours, including days, nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays. The employee must be available to participate in a rotating on-call schedule and may be required to report to duty or remain onsite during emergency operations.
Residency Requirements

Due to the on-call and emergency response nature of this position, the ideal candidate should reside in Wilson County or in one of the surrounding counties that border Wilson County, including Cannon, Davidson, DeKalb, Rutherford, Smith, Sumner, or Trousdale Counties.
Physical Demands, Work Environment, and Reasonable Accommodations

The work is heavy work which requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The following physical abilities are required: Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. The amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium. Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. Crawling: Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet. Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending the leg and spine. Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture, by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Works outside most of the time, from a Water/Sewer vehicle, in the City of Lebanon and customer facilities, in all kinds of weather. Works inside as necessary in a shop/warehouse setting. Subject to hazards, such as asphyxiation, explosions, burns, electrical shocks, falls, high/low temperatures, high humidity, etc. Subject to irregular or extended work hours as necessary and to being called in at any hour in emergency situations. Must be adaptable to changing working hours, working overtime, work environment, and learning new skills and techniques as required.
