Mission Statement
The mission of Sexual Trauma Awareness & Response® (STAR®) is to support survivors of sexual trauma, improve systems response, and create social change to end sexual violence.

Position Summary
The Advocacy Director leads the advocacy program across all STAR branches. The primary duties of this position include supervising advocates and interns, providing individual advocacy to survivors of sexual trauma, conducting outreach to enhance visibility, program development, and assisting with program reports.

Position Duties

Lead and manage the needs of the advocacy program at STAR® by:

Developing, monitoring, and updating agency procedures to ensure alignment with the work conducted by the advocacy team to maintain consistency across branches

Identifying barriers and gaps in service delivery

Working with the advocacy team to develop solutions to overcome barriers and gaps in service delivery

Identifying areas of growth and opportunity for the advocacy team and program as a whole

Facilitate 1-1's Monthly with Resource Advocates

Developing the Advocacy Program by:

Identifying areas of improvement with community partners and executing solutions

Providing trainings for community partners to ensure quality service for survivors

Working with community partners to creatively meet the identified needs in each community for survivors

Client Services

Maintain an active caseload

Provide comprehensive case management and advocacy services to sexual assault survivors.

Conduct safety planning and need assessments with all survivors.

Travel within STAR's service area as needed to offer accompaniment and support to clients.

Follow up with clients to ensure ongoing support and resources.

Documentation & File Management

Record all survivor interactions and upload all documents to the organization's centralized database in a timely manner

Ensure that survivor files are complete, well-organized, and up-to-date.

Grant Compliance

Ensure completion of grant deliverables within required timelines.

Assist with the preparation of grant reports and documentation required by funders.

Other Responsibilities

Clock in and out using the organization's timekeeping system

Submit monthly mileage and reimbursement documentation.

Attend staff meetings and maintain continuing education requirements.

Submit mandated reports to DCFS and law enforcement, as required by Louisiana law.

Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications for this Position
The following are the minimum requirements for this position.

You have a master's degree in a social services field, or a bachelor's degree with one or more years in a management position at a nonprofit organization.

You have 3-5 years of relevant lived experience or experience providing direct crisis intervention and/or survivor advocacy with knowledge of the criminal legal system.

You have strong presentation skills and are able to facilitate training for volunteers and community partners.

You understand the demands of providing advocacy services to survivors of sexual trauma through phone support and in-person support.

You are able to travel throughout Central and Southeast Louisiana.

You are committed to getting hospital clearance for the hospital(s) that STAR provides hospital accompaniment for your home office, including drug tests and vaccinations

You have completed, or will complete in the first year of employment, a mandatory 40 hours of sexual violence training; plus 20 hours of continuing education/training annually.

You have a valid driver's license and a working, insured vehicle at the time of appointment.

STAR requires all employees to consent to and successfully complete a full background investigation, which includes a criminal history check and fingerprinting.
