Are you ready to make a profound impact on the lives of homeless children and families? Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children facing challenging behaviors? Vogel is seeking a dedicated Summer Camp Leader Counselor to oversee the smooth operation of our Camp Vogel summer program. As a Summer Camp Leader Counselor, you'll play a crucial role in the development of building strong character values in youth.
This is a temporary summer position with an hourly rate of $20.00 per hour, and it is to be performed outdoors for 8 hours per day, early June through late July.

Vogel is a well-established nonprofit organization located in Dallas with a history spanning over 36 years. Our core mission is centered around providing exceptional care and early childhood education for young children from homeless and domestic abuse shelters, all within our NAEYC accredited child care facility. Our innovative approach works to support both children and their parents through a two-generation strategy, offering resources that set families on a path toward a brighter future.
What you’ll do
Facilitate Engaging Activities : Lead and participate in a variety of fun and educational activities for campers aged 5-13, ensuring their active participation and enjoyment.
Ensure Safety and Well-being : Supervise assigned groups of campers throughout the day, maintaining a safe and secure environment while promoting positive behavior and conflict resolution.
Build Positive Relationships : Foster a supportive and inclusive atmosphere by forming meaningful connections with campers, encouraging teamwork, and providing guidance and mentorship.
Implement Program Themes : Assist in the implementation of themed sessions, incorporating creative and innovative ideas to enhance the camp experience for participants.
Maintain Cleanliness and Organization : Take responsibility for the cleanliness and organization of camp areas, ensuring the proper use, care, and storage of equipment and supplies.
Communicate Effectively : Interact with campers, parents, and fellow staff members in a clear and friendly manner, addressing any concerns or questions promptly and professionally.
What will make you successful in this role (skills)
Vigilant Supervision : Your ability to closely supervise a group of campers during all scheduled activities is crucial. You must maintain constant visual and auditory awareness, actively identifying potential hazards or accidents. Your supervision style should involve consistent circulation among the children, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
Emergency Preparedness : As the primary caregiver, you'll be entrusted with the safety and well-being of each child and staff member. In the event of an injury or illness, you must act swiftly and confidently, initiating first aid procedures and providing necessary assistance. You should be capable of lifting or carrying children weighing up to 50 pounds during emergencies.
Physical and Mental Resilience : Given the varied work environment, both indoors and outdoors, you'll need to demonstrate physical strength and stamina to energetically engage with children throughout the day. Your ability to function effectively in dynamic situations and maintain focus amidst distractions is essential to ensuring a positive camp experience.
Experience and Education : With a minimum of 2 years' experience working with children aged 5-13 in an organized program, along with an associate's or bachelor's degree in elementary education, middle school education or recreation, you bring valuable insight and understanding to the role. Preferred coursework in child development, education, or recreation further enhances your qualifications.
Reliability and Initiative : Your reliability, punctuality, and self-initiated approach to tasks are key attributes that contribute to the smooth operation of the camp. Your commitment to following through on responsibilities and exhibiting good moral behavior sets a positive example for both staff and campers.
Interpersonal Skills : Your motivation to interact positively with both staff and children fosters a supportive and inclusive camp environment. Effective communication and collaboration with colleagues enhance teamwork and contribute to the overall success of the camp program.
Safety Certification and Training : Possession of current Basic First Aid and CPR Certification, or the commitment to obtain them as soon as possible, underscores your dedication to the safety and well-being of camp participants. Completion of Pre-Service Training provided by the Director and Manager before camp begins further prepares you for the responsibilities of the role.
