Alternate Protestant and Catholic Musician
In support of the Seabee Memorial Chapel, Naval Construction Battalion Center (NCBC), Gulfport, MS, the Director of Music requires an alternate musician to provide services during the absence of the primary musician.

Pay Rate: Pay is per service ($80-$120), which includes a 30 minute rehearsal.

Service Times:

Catholic Service (Mass) – Sunday, 9:00 am

Protestant Service – Sunday, 10:30 am

Primary Tasks and Responsibilities
1. Provide piano/guitar accompaniment for Protestant and Catholic worship services. Coordinate and consult with the officiating chaplain or Civilian Religious Ministry Provider concerning the selection of all choral selections, choruses, hymns, and other music utilized in the worship service. Worship services are typically 1 to 1.5 hours in length, including rehearsals.

2. Provide rehearsals at 30 minutes prior to the start of Protestant and Catholic worship services.

Assist the Religious Ministry Team with planning for the musical support of worship services, including written requests for securing musical equipment, musical scores, supplies, and other required material to the chapel office.

Maintain credentials for access to the installation and comply with installation and Government policies and regulations in regard to identification badges, parking, and professional decorum.

Qualifications

Skilled musician – possess the ability to lead religious worship services and maintain skills required of the applied position to include vocal and instrumental skills, performer management, and sound board operations. Instrumental skills shall at a minimum include piano and guitar play.

Read music – shall be able to perform the role of conductor to include the ability to guide other musicians and vocalists in four‑part musical scores. Professional training via secondary education or a collegiate degree in music or entertainment arts recommended, but not required.

Must have a working understanding of Navy organization and the pluralistic ministry requirements that affect the use of chapel facilities and staff. Musicians with no previous Department of the Navy (DON) experience must demonstrate such understanding to the Command Chaplain within three months of the start date of the contract via oral or written statement.
