Position Overview
Position:
2026 Summer Extended School Year for Elementary Teachers 6:1:1
Purpose:
Professional, temporary teaching staff needed to teach a six‑week session for the 2026 Extended School Year Program. Teachers will be expected to implement innovative and diverse instructional techniques that will lead to improved student achievement. Under the general supervision of the Program Administrator, to facilitate student success and growth focusing on core content skills.
Dates:
July 6, 2026 – August 14, 2026 (Monday – Friday). Staff - two additional days for planning and closure of program.
Hours:
8:30 AM – 12:30 PM for staff; 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM for students.
Salary:
Per negotiated agreement.
Essential Functions
Administers specially designed instruction consistent with students' goals and objectives.
Progress monitors students' goals as per their IEP.
Promotes a culturally diverse, safe, and conducive classroom environment for individualized and small group instruction.
Develops lesson plans and instructional materials according to NYS Standards.
Instructs students in the principles of the 'Spartan Way' and other subject matters.
Maintains a system for accurate and complete record‑keeping for progress monitoring and attendance per district procedures and applicable laws.
Encourages parent(s)/guardian(s) involvement and ensures effective communication with students and families.
Ensures students understand the Student Conduct and Character policy, school standards, and district policies, and maintains classroom behavior standards.
Coordinates with other professional staff members and participates in faculty meetings.
Selects and requests appropriate books, instructional aids, and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director of Student Support Services.
General Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, and differentiating instruction based on student learning styles.
Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts.
Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and formulation of action plans.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
Ability to organize and coordinate work.
Ability to communicate effectively with students and parent(s)/guardian(s).
Ability to engage in self‑evaluation regarding performance, professional growth, and cultural awareness.
Ability to engage culturally diverse students and families.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
Certification/License:
NYS Certification as a Special Education Teacher.
Education:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or a related discipline applicable to teaching assignment; Master's degree in a related area preferred.
Experience:
Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels a plus; experience working with a diverse population of students desired.
Demands, Hazards:
Works in standard office and school building environments.
Equipment:
Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
Travel:
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
