Job Summary/Company
Sparks Group has partnered with a small, mission-driven credit union in Washington, DC to hire an
Assistant Vice President of Operations
to join its leadership team. This is a hands-on, on-site role for an operations professional who is comfortable overseeing branch activity, supporting staff and members, and collaborating with senior leadership to maintain strong daily operations.
Responsibilities
Daily Branch & Operations Support
Ensure the branch is fully staffed, prepared, and ready to serve members each day
Actively assist with teller transactions, member services, and lending support as needed
Oversee daily balancing, cash controls, adjustments, and transaction accuracy
Address and resolve member questions or escalations promptly and professionally
Staff Leadership & Team Support
Supervise and support branch staff in a small-team environment
Provide hands-on training, coaching, and daily guidance
Conduct regular check-ins and performance discussions
Foster a positive, service-driven, and accountable workplace culture
Lending Assistance
Originate, review, and approve loans within established lending authority
Ensure proper loan documentation, underwriting, and compliance with policy
Assist members with loan inquiries, servicing issues, and problem resolution
Compliance, Audits & Controls
Support NCUA exams, audits, and operational reviews
Conduct or coordinate teller audits and quality-control checks
Ensure disclosures, rates, and operational documentation remain accurate and current
Operations & Process Improvement
Monitor branch workflows and identify opportunities for improvement
Coordinate with vendors and internal partners to support systems and equipment
Assist executive leadership with special projects and operational initiatives
Qualifications/Background Profile :
35+ years of experience in credit union or banking operations
Prior supervisory or team leadership experience
Comfortable working in a hands-on, operational role
Experience with Symitar or EPISYS core systems
Strong understanding of teller operations, lending processes, and branch controls
Familiarity with regulatory requirements, audits, and operational compliance
Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
This job is In-Person.
Pay Range: Salary $75,000.00 to $85,000.00
