Test Engineer
Advanced Micro Devices, Austin, TX, United States
THE ROLE
Test Engineering is a critical function responsible for delivering high-quality microprocessors to market—driving cost, quality, and time-to-market.
As a Test Engineer, you will play a key role across both pre‑silicon and post‑silicon phases. Pre‑silicon, you will develop characterization strategies, identify test coverage gaps, and build the infrastructure needed to validate new designs. Post‑silicon, you will focus on debug, characterization, and yield improvement, working hands‑on with silicon to resolve performance and manufacturing challenges.
This role offers strong cross‑functional exposure, partnering closely with Design and Platform Engineering to influence product quality and drive continuous improvement for current and future generations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and debug ATE test patterns and test flows
Define and execute test plans, characterization, and silicon validation
Ensure testability and manufacturability from development through production
Analyze silicon failures and drive test flow improvements
Perform silicon debug, including performance, yield, and marginality analysis
Optimize test flows to improve quality, efficiency, and cost
Analyze characterization data to inform design and process improvements
Collaborate with Design and Platform teams to root cause and resolve issues
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Test & Silicon Engineering
Experience with ATE platforms (e.g., Verigy 93K) including hardware, software, timing, and pattern development
Knowledge of test methodologies such as Open/Shorts, Boundary Scan, and connectivity testing
Familiarity with ATE test program development and infrastructure
Scan / ATPG
Understanding of scan compression techniques, failure mechanisms, and debug processes
Experience with at‑speed (AC scan) development, debug, and characterization
Memory / Array
Knowledge of modern SRAM operation
Experience with SRAM debug, characterization, test, or design
Familiarity with Memory BIST architectures
Analog / Mixed Signal
Understanding of microprocessor architecture and analog DFT concepts
Technical Skills
Strong data analysis and presentation skills
Programming experience in Java, Perl, or C++
Unix/Linux proficiency
Knowledge of JTAG and modern processor architectures
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS
BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or related field
