Description
Be a part of the team accepting the exciting challenge to return mankind back to the Moon and beyond. The ESSCA contract provides engineering, scientific, and technical support to NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) in Huntsville, AL. Our Thermal Analysis and Control team is a high performing group executing challenging tasks for thermal and fluids design, analysis, and test support of the Space Launch System (SLS), Human Lander System (HLS), Deep Space Habitation and Mars missions.

Responsibilities

Providing thermal engineering support and sustaining engineering of spacecraft, payloads, satellites, vehicles, and technology development projects.

Performing engineering studies in heat transfer, passive/active thermal control, thermal protection systems, testing, thermal/fluids analysis, verification, operational support, etc. as required by the specific task or project.

Supporting technical reviews to ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and company guidelines. Meticulously assess designs, analysis reports, and test plans ensuring they align with standards and requirements.

Staying updated with latest advancements, emerging technologies, and industry trends related to thermal management.

Working across organizational boundaries and engineering disciplines to facilitate and execute engineering tasks and resolve systems integration issues.

Sustaining an organized work environment that promotes safety, efficiency, and productivity.

Qualifications
A degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited institution is required. Degrees in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering are highly desired. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a Master’s degree with at least 8 years or a Bachelor’s degree with at least 10 years of related engineering experience.

Required skills and experience

At least five years of relevant experience in the field of launch vehicle or spacecraft thermal systems analysis.

Strong knowledge of industry regulations, engineering principles, standards, and safety practices related to aerospace thermal analysis.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to anticipate challenges and propose effective solutions.

Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Flexibility to adapt to changing project requirements and priorities.

Technical writing and presentation capabilities.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook).

Highly desired skills and experience

Thermal/structural and thermal protection system analysis experience.

Experience in design, analyses, and integration of active and/or passive thermal systems within aerospace or similar industry.

Expertise in Thermal Desktop and associated thermal modeling techniques, including the ability to create thermal models, define boundary conditions, and execute analyses.

Experience with AutoCAD, and/or ANSYS.

Prior experience in engineering support to NASA or DoD.

Familiar with NASA or DoD standards and specifications.

Work Environment
Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and customers (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA ( Physical Requirements
Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and Amentum facilities (10%).

Equipment and Machines
Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).

Attendance
Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

Other Essential Functions
The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
