
Lead Field Engineer - Night Shift

Job Summary:
In this role, you will manage a team and provide field engineering leadership for work planning and packaging, material management, quantity validation, safety and quality control, technical inspection and testing knowledge, and coordination of system turnover and subcontracts. Your oversight will ensure field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements. #LI-BH1
Major Responsibilities:
On a medium sized job, performs the duties of a lead engineer in either an area, coordinating and directing a variety of disciplines, or as a Deputy Project Field Engineer, coordinating all activities related to the operation of assigned operating section
Proactively engages with their teams’ development through CPM, competency development/assessment and feedback
Supervises a broad range of construction engineering work within a specific engineering discipline.
Coordinates with design on constructability issues.
Material Management
Directs the preparation of requisitions for field procured materials, material substitution, services, and equipment.
Possesses responsibility for quantity take-off, control, reporting and forecasting.
Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely.
Possesses responsibility for coordinating between construction and startup to ensure the various system walkdowns are performed, interfacing with the startup specialist as required to support component/system turnover and assuming responsibility (as required) for area turnover coordination as determined by the PFE.
Reviews and approves inspection test plans
Coordinates reviews of subcontractor submittals
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Technical knowledge of a specialized engineering discipline, cost, scheduling and/or contracts administration relating to the construction of heavy industrial or commercial complexes.
Work experience as a construction engineer, engineer or assistant superintendent leading to an understanding of the technical knowledge described above.
Demonstrated leadership in a team-based environment.
Knowledge and understanding of the application and requirements of the Project Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) Handbook and the Bechtel Core Processes as they relate to area of responsibility.
Familiar with Bechtel’s Business Ethics handbook and policies.
Prior experience supervising and administering subcontractors. Knowledge of Bechtel’s “Zero Accidents” safety program.
Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications in accordance with current Bechtel Standard Application Program (BSAP) standards.
Knowledge of the use of subcontracts; knowledge of the contractor/ subcontractor’s responsibilities contained in subcontract documents.
Additional Information:
Must be willing to work a flexible schedule as required that may include but not limited to nightshift or split shift.
Work requires the physical ability to conduct field inspections including but not limited to: extensive walking in and around a construction site often in high heat and high humidity conditions, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces, and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress). Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. harness, life vest, lift buckets, etc.).
