Job Description
This is designed to be a traveling position to support our students with physical, health and cognitive needs in the area of physical education.
In this position, the teacher will be expected to teach small groups of students in special education physical movement, games and activities for life‑long physical activity. The teacher will also co‑teach some PE classes with general education PE teachers where students in special education will also participate. The two teachers will provide instruction to all students and the adaptive teacher will help provide accommodations and modifications to activities and games to allow for high engagement and participation from all students.
Grain Valley teachers are expected to provide instruction that meets the district goals, mission, and benchmarks, create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students. All candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to their own ongoing professional growth.
Job Responsibilities
Creating an inclusive classroom environment through supportive exchanges with students and clear expectations for community behavior
Design an engaging curriculum for lifetime activities & personal fitness courses
Create a collaborative and supportive environment where students can compete and grow through physical activity
Collaborate with general education physical education teachers
Collaborate with district physical therapist if there are questions or concerns about how to support students in PE
Lead paraprofessionals in providing support to the students during these activities
Provide modification and accommodations to support all students in the classroom
Maintain regular and dependable attendance while traveling within the school district
Support and follow school policies
Assess student progress toward objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, administration
Certificates: Missouri State Teaching Certificate in Physical Education OR Special Education
