Summary
The Manager, Strategic Sourcing will develop, prioritize, and execute short and long‑term sourcing initiatives that optimize the supply chain networks and achieve material productivity targets. Use a variety of tools to drive supplier delivery and quality improvements, align suppliers to Bettcher Industries’ strategic direction, and ensure compliance over time. Identify and develop strategic supply bases for critical components using Lean methodologies while reducing overall supply‑chain complexity.
Responsibilities
Develop and execute sourcing and commodity management strategies that achieve quality, delivery, cost, and inventory targets within respective business units, focusing on total cost of ownership savings.
Analyze current market conditions and geo‑political environments, incorporating them into commodity strategies to mitigate supply‑chain risk.
Negotiate agreements with suppliers of the assigned supply base, ensuring the best total network cost. Contracts include discounts, payment terms, shipping terms, stocking agreements, quality parameters, service requirements, supply‑chain connections, and other valuable items.
Develop cost models and clearly understand cost drivers in each commodity; use industry and commodity indexes to identify cost‑saving opportunities.
Utilize an 80/20 mindset to establish savings strategies and identify opportunities to reduce product and supply‑base complexity.
Lead cross‑functional project teams to implement re‑sourcing initiatives and spend reductions.
Manage global supply base and incorporate supply‑chain management tools to continually improve supplier performance and resolve supplier issues.
Evaluate new suppliers against minimum qualification requirements and create supplier‑development roadmaps to enhance performance.
Assist in the creation and continuous improvement of the Sourcing Playbook, employing the methodology throughout the business.
All other duties assigned by Manager.
Qualifications
Degree from an accredited 4‑year university required, preferably a BS in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field.
Prior sourcing experience in a
manufacturing environment
required.
MBA or other master’s degree preferred.
Minimum five years of purchasing and sourcing experience in a manufacturing environment.
Supplier negotiation experience preferred.
Strong analytical skills using Excel and other tools.
APICS or CPM certificate preferred.
Experience using an MRP system, Syteline preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Travel up to 25% of the time, domestic and international, required.
Previous experience working with ERP systems such as Oracle, Syteline, JDE, SAP.
Physical Demands
Majority of time spent sitting.
Requires use of hands and arms at least 60% of the time.
Lifting requirements generally less than 10 lbs; manual lifting could reach the company maximum of 50 lbs.
Employment is contingent upon successfully completing both a pre‑employment background check and a drug screening.
