Public Health Nurse – Emergency Preparedness Coordinator
Salary Range 51B: $42.30 - $51.42/hour. Final Filing Date: Friday, May 1, 2026.

Under general direction plans, coordinates, implements public health nursing programs and emergency preparedness programs within the Health and Human Services agency; performs a variety of professional nursing care services including but not limited to health assessments, case management, care coordination, counseling and referral services, and health education to high‑risk and special populations for the prevention and control of diseases and adverse health conditions; assists in program development and monitoring; serves as a liaison with various regional and state agencies and service providers working to improve the health outcomes of the communities and populations served; administers various state and federal grant‑funded public health programs; and performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with completion of an approved public health nursing program and a Public Health Nurse Certificate.

Graduation from an accredited Nursing Program with a minimum of 2 years of experience providing nursing services in public health programs, clinics or hospital settings serving high‑risk populations.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid U.S. driver’s license upon date of application.

Registered Nurse license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing, maintained throughout employment.

Training in respiratory fit testing, maintained throughout employment.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification, maintained throughout employment.

Public Health Nurse Certificate preferred but not required.

Compensation & Benefits

100% FTE in a five‑step salary system with advancement upon satisfactory completion of a 12‑month probationary period and annual increases thereafter.

Health Insurance: County provides medical, dental, and vision coverage for employee and dependents with co‑payment by employee dependent on family status.

Vacation: Accrued at the rate of 6.67 hours per month, or 10 vacation days per year.

Sick Leave: Earned at the rate of 8 hours per month.

Holidays: 15 paid holidays per year.

Retirement: Participation in the California Public Employee Retirement System (PERS), 2% at 62 plan New Members.

Deferred Compensation: The County has a voluntary deferred compensation program.
