Senior Associate Scientist – Chem Analytical
Join our multidisciplinary drug product analytics team as a Senior Associate Scientist, where you will play a pivotal role in forensic analysis and materials characterization. In this position, you will gain hands‑on experience with a wide array of experimental techniques, including various forms of microscopy (optical, electron, and x‑ray), spectroscopy (FTIR, Raman, and NIR), sample isolation, particle and foreign material characterization, and controlled substance handling.

Beyond technical training, you will develop expertise in scientific literature review, interdisciplinary communication (both oral and written), and collaborative decision‑making under time constraints. As a recognized technical expert, you will contribute significantly to diverse programs and projects spanning drug substance crystallization, drug product formulation, and manufacturing. How You Will Achieve It

Collaborate closely with senior scientists to learn established workflows, best practices, and effective documentation methods for investigations.

Work alongside subject‑matter experts to expand technical and scientific knowledge in areas such as particle sizing and characterization, crystal form stability, amorphous solid dispersion formulation, and dissolution assessments.

Contribute to the characterization of innovative drug products in a dynamic environment that supports professional growth.

Qualifications
Must‑Have

B.S. in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences (or related discipline) with 3+ years (industry or academic) experience in analytical characterization, materials/particle analysis, or forensic‑style investigations (trace analysis and non‑biological); OR M.S. with 0+ years of relevant experience.

Hands‑on experience with microscopy (e.g., polarized light, inverted, confocal) and/or spectroscopic characterization (e.g., FTIR, NIR, Raman) for material identification and problem solving.

Strong oral and written communication skills, including data visualization, technical presentations, and clear investigation/report writing.

Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet aggressive timelines, and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams (formulation, manufacturing, and analytical partners).

Demonstrated ability to learn new techniques, review relevant scientific literature, and solve complex analytical problems/investigations.

Proficient with a wide variety of software and information systems.

Experience with structured documentation practices (e.g., capturing observations, maintaining investigation records, and summarizing conclusions in technical reports).

Willingness and ability to work in environments requiring controlled substance handling and strict adherence to safety and regulatory procedures.

Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and effective interpersonal and communication skills are required.

Nice‑To‑Have

Exposure to specialty microscopies such as atomic, x‑ray, or electron.

Comfortable with solid and liquid sample handling.

Experience with particle/foreign material isolation and characterization, including thoughtful sample handling, contamination‑aware techniques, and refractive index measurements.

Experience with handling controlled substances and working under strict safety/regulatory procedures.

Having general understanding of formal documentation practices and observation recording.

Physical/Mental Requirements
Performing experiments in the lab using small‑ and large‑scale equipment, lifting, sitting, standing, walking, bending, and ability to perform mathematical calculations and data analysis.

Non‑Standard Work Schedule, Travel or Environment Requirements
Some travel may be required. Ability to adhere to safe work practices and procedures.

Salary and Benefits
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $68,600.00 to $114,300.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 7.5% of the base salary. Pfizer offers comprehensive benefits, including a 401(k) plan with matching contributions, retirement savings contribution, paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage.
