
Industrial Hygiene Senior Technician / Scientist

Tetra Tech is seeking a hands‑on Industrial Hygiene Senior Technician to support a variety of contracts, including federal, state, municipal, and commercial clients in Helena, MT and Missoula, MT offices. The ideal candidate will have excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills, experience managing task orders or projects, and the ability to work both independently and in team settings.
Essential Job Functions
Assist customers with industrial hygiene needs in Montana, surrounding states, and worldwide.
Support and manage industrial hygiene projects and task orders, including asbestos, lead‑based paint, mold investigations, and remedial actions.
Communicate and interact with project clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
Conduct regulated material surveys in industrial, commercial, and institutional buildings.
Perform asbestos inspections, lead‑based paint inspections, indoor air quality (IAQ) assessments, and other environmental‑related projects primarily at sites.
Oversee and manage subcontractors during asbestos, lead‑based paint, and mold remediation projects.
Support proposal and cost estimate development.
Interpret analytical data using spreadsheets and databases.
Prepare technical report deliverables, including data evaluation, interpretation, and presentation.
Mentor and train new staff.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
BS degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or related field.
5 to 10 years of relevant or related experience in asbestos, lead, IAQ, and environmental‑related projects.
Current certifications as an asbestos inspector, asbestos contractor/supervisor, lead inspector, or lead risk assessor, NIOSH 582 or equivalent certification.
Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Familiarity with Adobe.
Strong mathematical aptitude, excellent technical abilities, communication, and organizational skills.
Pre‑employment drug screening in compliance with state regulations is required.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
Preferred Qualifications
Current Hazwoper certification (desired).
AutoCAD experience (desired). Construction/building systems background preferred.
Professional licenses or certifications such as Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or safety professional.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 30 lbs over rugged surfaces.
Ability to travel and perform field work (≥ 75% travel).
Ability to be on feet for extended periods, moving through facilities primarily outdoors, walking across variable terrain, in all weather conditions.
Ability to work from heights and confined spaces.
Full range of motion to support field activities.
Field work will be performed outdoors and subject to environmental factors.
Hybrid working opportunities may exist, subject to review; candidate must reside within 75 mi of Helena, MT or Missoula, MT office.
Additional Information
Full‑time, Monday through Friday work schedule (40 hrs); occasional extended hours, overtime, weekends may be required based on project and client needs.
Work will be performed primarily in a field setting.
Target Salary
Target salary range: $28.00 / hour to $31.00 / hour.
