Senior/Principal R&D Computer Engineer - IT Infrastructure and Systems Leadership, Onsite

We are seeking an R&D Computer Engineer to lead a cross‑functional team responsible for managing and advancing our IT infrastructure and systems administration, alongside cybersecurity initiatives.
What Your Job Will Be Like
The Integrated Stockpile Evaluation (ISE) Planning, Information and Data Systems team is dedicated to ensuring the safety, reliability, and effectiveness of the U.S. nuclear weapons stockpile. You will oversee and enhance our infrastructure, including server administration, network management, and application development.
Lead strategic initiatives focused on IT infrastructure management, including server and network administration across Windows and Linux environments.
Manage and mentor a diverse team of IT, cyber, and computer engineering professionals, fostering collaboration across disciplines.
Oversee the development and deployment of applications and tools that support infrastructure and operational needs.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement in infrastructure and security.
Provide expert guidance on infrastructure utilization and systems administration best practices.
Lead key projects, including cyber‑related initiatives, in partnership with the ISSO who manages security plan development and compliance.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range
$117,500 - $235,700 (range is estimated; actual salary to be determined based on experience and qualifications and geographic differential).
Qualifications We Require
A bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent R&D.
Ability to obtain and maintain a required U.S. DOE Q‑level security clearance.
Qualifications We Desire
Graduate degree in Computer Engineering or a highly related field with independent research project or thesis.
Demonstrated ability to execute and deliver technical work products with appropriate rigor and documentation (e.g., design/code reviews, technical oversight).
Experience in computer systems design and software development for real‑time and embedded processing systems, distributed processing systems, or real‑time client‑server implementations.
Familiarity with hardware/software requirements generation for verification, validation and qualification.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team setting for a common purpose.
Experience managing IT infrastructure, including server and network administration across Windows and Linux environments.
Strong background in systems administration and troubleshooting complex IT systems.
Experience developing and deploying applications or tools that support infrastructure and operational needs.
In‑depth knowledge of cybersecurity controls implementation and security plan development, with ability to collaborate with ISSO personnel.
Leadership experience with ability to motivate and manage diverse teams across multiple disciplines and departments.
Proven project management experience guiding initiatives from inception to completion.
Experience with programming languages such as Python, C++, and scripting, including web technologies.
Strong critical and creative thinking abilities, with proven capacity to analyze complex problems and develop innovative solutions.
Demonstrated ability to operate independently and make informed decisions in a fast‑paced environment.
Active DOE Q clearance or equivalent.

The Integrated Stockpile Evaluation (ISE) team is dedicated to understanding all aspects of stockpile systems to ensure the nuclear weapon stockpile is safe, secure, reliable, and effective now and into the future. ISE integrates various stockpile evaluation programs and focuses on the transformation of the U.S. nuclear weapons complex.
