About Legal Prep
Legal Prep Charter Academy is a free, open-enrollment public charter school with a unique law-themed, college-preparatory model designed to prepare students from traditionally underserved communities for success in college, careers, and civic leadership. Founded in Chicago in 2012, Legal Prep integrates rigorous academics with real-world professional experiences, including law courses at every grade level and monthly skills-based programming with legal and business partners.
In Fall 2026, Legal Prep will open its first Indianapolis campus, launching with 6th and 9th grades and growing into a full 6–12 school. Our founding faculty will play a critical role in shaping the culture, systems, and academic excellence of the school from day one.
Position Overview
The 9th Grade Math Teacher is responsible for delivering rigorous, standards-aligned instruction that prepares students for success in high school math and beyond. This role emphasizes building strong foundational skills, developing problem-solving and analytical thinking, and ensuring all students can access grade-level content.
The ideal candidate believes deeply in high expectations, restorative practices, and culturally responsive teaching. This teacher will deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction while helping build the academic identity of the school during its founding year.
Core Responsibilities
Deliver high-quality, standards-aligned math instruction that builds conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and problem-solving skills
Use data from formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress, identify trends, and adjust instruction to ensure mastery
Differentiate instruction and provide targeted support to meet the needs of all learners, including students performing below grade level and those receiving SPED or EL services
Build and maintain a classroom culture of high expectations, strong routines, and consistent student engagement that aligns to schoolwide expectations
Collaborate with colleagues in planning, data analysis, and instructional improvement through PLCs and coaching cycles
Serve as an advisor to a group of students, supporting their academic progress, goal setting, and overall well-being
Provide holistic student support by building strong relationships, monitoring academic and behavioral progress, and partnering with families as needed
Support student recruitment and founding-year initiatives.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required.
Valid Indiana teaching license in Mathematics (or ability to obtain)
Strong content knowledge in high school math (Algebra I or beyond)
Experience teaching or working with high school students preferred
Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills.
Commitment to serving students from historically underserved communities.
Belief in structured, high-expectations, college-preparatory environments.
Spanish language proficiency is a plus.
