ULTRASOUND TECHNOLOGIST - 40 HOURS WEEKLY - ROTATING SHIFT
General Summary:
Under the direction of a Radiologist, specializes in the performance of diagnostic ultrasound procedures to aid in the evaluation of pathological entities as prescribed by a physician. Performs related functions according to department protocols. Utilizes independent judgment in determining appropriate imaging techniques, patient positioning, and safety practices.
Explains examination procedure to patients and prepares patient for the examination. Obtains additional information about the patient’s medical history as necessary.
Reviews clinical data on requisition, analyzes anatomical structure of patient, sets up equipment and, following protocols, and performs the procedure.
May assist Radiologist in performing diagnostic invasive procedures. Prepares and sets up sterile equipment, physiological monitors, pressure injectors, and imaging equipment required for the procedure. Ensures the adequate supplies such as needles, catheters, etc. are on hand and properly stored.
Performs all imaging procedures by demonstrating the principles of radiation protection: may involve shielding of patients, selection of appropriate equipment settings to reduction dose, using other ALARA techniques, etc.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required.
Must be registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), or eligible candidate to sit for an ARDMS examination.
The ARDMS defines 'candidate' as an applicant who has met the prerequisites required to sit for an ARDMS examination.
If eligible candidate, successful completion of SPI, Abdomen, and OB/GYN ARDMS examinations required within 12 months of date of hire.
Failure to obtain registry within the designated timeframe will result in termination of the Ultrasound Technologist position.
Must maintain required hours of continued medical education. Healthcare Provider certification required (BCLS).
