Environmental Construction Division — Assistant Superintendent

Empire Landscape, LLC is seeking to hire a qualified individual for our environmental construction division.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Assistant Superintendent supports the Project Superintendent in planning, organizing, scheduling, and overseeing multiple environmental construction projects. This role assists in producing work orders, maintaining tracking sheets, and ensuring accurate documentation of work completed.

The Assistant Superintendent will assist in reviewing project specifications and plan sets to ensure proper execution of assigned tasks. Projects may include, but are not limited to, reforestation plantings, stream plantings, bioretention systems, stormwater management plantings, hydroseeding, tree preservation, erosion and sediment control, and bioengineering.

This role involves working with a variety of stakeholders, including large and small construction companies, county parks, government agencies, municipalities, homeowners, and inspectors throughout the DC/MD/VA region. The Assistant Superintendent will support coordination of meetings with prime contractors and project owners, maintain organized records of communications, and assist with project documentation.

The Assistant Superintendent works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, and field crews to facilitate daily project logistics and execution. A strong emphasis is placed on safety, quality, productivity, and efficiency. This role requires adherence to all applicable laws, environmental regulations, project specifications, and company policies.

Education and Experience

2–4-year degree in Environmental Science or a related field, OR 1–3 years of relevant field experience

Valid state driver’s license with a clean driving record

Ability to work 5 days per week and weekends as needed (seasonal Saturdays in Spring and Fall)

Willingness to learn environmental processes (e.g., erosion control and plant functions)

Basic tree and shrub identification skills preferred (or willingness to learn)

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Ability to think critically, especially in safety-related situations

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google platforms

Spanish speaking is a plus

Strong organizational and time management skills

Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Certifications (Preferred or Ability to Obtain)

MD Licensed Tree Expert (LTE)

Professional Fertilizer Applicator Certificate (PFA)

MDE Erosion and Sediment Control “Responsible Person” Certification

MD DOT/SHA Erosion and Sediment Control Certification (Yellow Card)
