Plant Operator – City of Attleboro Water Treatment Plant
The City of Attleboro Water Treatment Plant seeks a Plant Operator who, under the direction of the Superintendent of Water, is responsible for the inspection, maintenance and operation of the machinery and equipment used in a water treatment facility.
Responsibilities
Operates and maintains equipment including pumps, filters, chemical feed system, mixers, and traveling screens.
Cleans pumps and sediment screens.
Cleans building interiors and exteriors.
Checks pumping stations, dams, standpipes, and reservoirs.
Opens and shuts valves, sluice gates, sludge gates, and related equipment.
Checks watershed levels and makes proper adjustments to prevent loss of water.
Conducts security checks at properties belonging to the Water Department.
Records hourly chlorine, pH, turbidity, fluoride, and storage tank levels.
Rates chemical feed pumps and receives bulk chemical deliveries.
Calibrates laboratory equipment.
Performs system and process sampling and analysis.
Answers and responds to consumer inquiries and complaints.
Participates in City Snow and Ice Program.
Performs related work as required.
Qualifications
High school diploma and five years of experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in physical or biological sciences, or other related field, and four years’ experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
Mass. Water Treatment License Grade 3 or higher.
Mass. Water Distribution License Grade D2 or higher.
Valid Driver’s License required.
Must have extensive knowledge of the processes and methods used in water treatment.
Ability to operate equipment used in water treatment.
Knowledge of state and federal laws regarding drinking water regulations.
