Ridges Hospital is looking for a passionate and hardworking Nursing Assistant to join our Orthopedic and Spine unit. Located in Burnsville, just 20 minutes south of Minneapolis, MN, near the 35 E and 35 W conjunctions. This unit is a 26‑bed unit that cares for adult orthopedics, spine, total joint replacements, general surgery, post‑surgical recovery and medical patients.

This position is a .75 FTE, working 60 hours per 2 week pay period. It involves 12‑hour shifts, every third weekend rotation (Fri, Sat, Sun), and a night shift 7 pm‑7:30 am.

The Nursing Assistant is responsible for assisting the professional nurse/caregiver in the delivery of patient care, transporting patients and/or equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and the reordering and stocking of supplies. The Nursing Assistant does not work autonomously but works under the direction of a professional nurse. The Nursing Assistant may be given a patient care assignment based on unit needs and the discretion of the manager/charge nurse.

Provides basic patient care by performing routine duties to include:

Personal grooming, bathing, toileting, feeding

Skin care needs (clean and sterile dressing changes), applying ointments/creams

Oral hygiene

Specimen collection/testing

Position/ambulating

Changing linens

Promptly answers call lights

Assists the nurse in monitoring patient condition

Accurately takes and records weights, input/output, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rates, respiration, oxygen saturation

Places patient on/off monitors or equipment

Reports unusual findings to the RN in a timely manner

Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharge of patients

Orients patient and their family to the environment

Assures the patient’s belongings are accounted for, documented upon admission, transfer and discharge

Transports patients, equipment, specimen and supplies

Assures patients get to appointments on time

Uses transfer belt when assisting patients with transfers and/or ambulation

Clears, sets up, and maintains rooms and equipment

Orders and stocks supplies

Accurately documents tasks performed on appropriate form

Performs other tasks as needed

License/Certification/Registration

Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program

Six months of recent direct care experience in a long‑term, home care or acute care setting. Appropriate roles may include Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician

Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program

Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position

Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. OnTrack participants must be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program
