Job Duties
The Clinical Risk & Patient Safety RN

is responsible for supporting the organizational strategic goals and objectives specifically those related to clinical risk management as part of the System's Peer Review process. Performs all duties in a manner that promotes a team concept and reflects the goal of providing seamless support for patients.

Qualifications

At least 5 years of Registered Nurse work experience is required.

BSN is required.

The ideal candidate will have experience in Clinical Risk and Patient Safety, familiarity with the MCARE Act of 2002 and PA-PSRS, and proficiency in Tableau, Midas, Excel, Word, and Acrobat Reader. Knowledge of regulatory compliance related to patient safety is a plus.

This role is full-time, days. The start time hours are flexible per business needs.

Licensed Registered Nurse (Pennsylvania) - RN_State of Pennsylvania.

Minimum of 5 years Nursing experience is required.

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, required.

Responsibilities

Performs claims administration, identification of adverse patient events, investigation, documentation and reporting to Legal Services and Corporate Risk and Insurance.

Communicates and reports real and potential risk issues to department managers and administration as appropriate.

Collaborates with Department managers to systemic performance shaping factors and staff perceptions of risk that lead to at-risk behaviors or human error.

Works with departments in establishing and monitoring strategies to avoid, eliminate, and reduce risk situations associated with the provision of patient care and services.

Identifies Departmental trends for actual or potential risk management issues or patient safety concerns based on review of patient incidents and adverse patient events. Participates in the development and implementation of department and facility policies and procedures that affect managing risk and patient safety.

Conducts a thorough and credible root cause analysis.

Consults and collaborates with the Legal Services to mitigate the potential loss associated with adverse patient events, including pre-litigation negotiations.

Provides secondary review of all patient incidents, visitor events and infrastructure failures reported and consults and collaborates with appropriate staff and departments as needed.

Conducts a thorough and credible investigation of adverse patient events with follow‑up on identified risk management cases and patient safety action items as a result of the adverse patient event.

Stays current with compliance requirements for regulatory agencies for the reporting of incidents, grievances, serious events and other occurrences as required.

Educates staff, both formally and informally, on principles of patient safety and risk management.

Responsible for a set amount of onsite time at selected healthcare facilities.
