Senior Director, Workplace Experience
We are seeking a Senior Director of Workplace Experience. This individual will serve as the senior‑most real estate and facilities professional at Earthjustice, reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer. The role recommends real estate and facilities management strategies, implements and manages best‑practice systems, leads real estate transactions, and manages the Real Estate and Workplace Operations teams, including the Real Estate Operations Manager and the Senior Workplace Manager. The role may be based in a hybrid arrangement from our Washington, D.C., San Francisco, CA, or New York, NY offices.

Responsibilities
Manage our client’s real estate footprint; design workplace strategy; and execute relevant initiatives informed by our client’s values, data analytics and industry trends.
Manage all aspects of real estate transactions, lease negotiations, office relocations and consolidations, space allocations, etc., including the hiring and performance management of third‑party brokers and other resources as necessary.
Ensure adequate monitoring of and accountability to all relevant lease terms, insurance requirements, and regulations, ensuring landlords/property managers are upholding their responsibilities to our client.
Lead, mentor, and develop the Real Estate and Workplace Operations teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Workplace Operations Programming (30%)
Design and implement systems of ongoing management for all critical real estate and workplace programs (e.g., lease administration, space allocations, maintenance and CapEx planning, security/safety, etc.).
Identify and set standards for facilities operations practices, materials, and more, using frameworks to right‑size standards for differing regions, footprints, and use cases.
Serve as national lead for office‑based security, emergency preparedness, and business continuity protocols.
Workplace Operations Administration (20%)
Manage third‑party vendor relationships and budgets, both project‑based and ongoing, ensuring our client’s resources are well stewarded.
Support the Real Estate and Workplace Operations teams to ensure training on and accountability to standards across the national office manager cohort.
Ensure systems exist, data is captured, and insightful analytics are shared with leadership and others to enable decision‑making and monitoring the health of the real‑estate and facilities programs.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, in a related field required; facilities management and/or sustainable real‑estate certifications a plus.
At least 10+ years of experience in real estate, facilities, and organizational change management; understanding of and experience with a multi‑site organizational structure highly preferred.
Strong critical‑thinking skills with the ability to both design and implement plans.
Experience with business‑process and system‑improvement projects and efforts, including building organizational alignment around new systems and tools.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to translate complex data into relevant and understandable information; ability to train or instruct others in business processes and/or tools to support those processes.
Proven record of accomplishment in successfully meeting organizational goals and deadlines; solid budget‑management experience.
Ability to travel to regional offices across the country and to local vendor offices, as necessary. Ability to work nights and weekends for special projects, as necessary.
Salary & Benefits
Salary is based on location and experience. The annual salary for candidates based in San Francisco, CA, and New York, NY, is $205,300 – $228,100. The annual salary for candidates based in Washington, D.C.: $195,000 – $216,700.
