In addition to performing complex husbandry and technical procedures, this roles assigns and reviews the work of junior staff, ensures compliance with regulatory and institutional standards, and serves as a key resource for training, mentoring, and problem-solving. The Animal Care Technician III plays a critical role in supporting the success of research programs and the integrity of the animal care and use program across multiple campus vivaria. The primary work location for this role is Jupiter, with additional responsibilities that include travel to the Boca Raton campus.Summary of Responsibilities:Advanced Animal Care and Husbandry:* Provide daily care for a variety of laboratory species, including specialized or sensitive strains.* Perform advanced husbandry practices such as breeding colony management, genotyping, specialized enrichment, and environmental monitoring.* Identify, troubleshoot, and report any breeding performance issues or those that may impact research aims.* Identify and address health issues, coordinating with veterinary staff for diagnosis and treatment.Technical Procedures:* Perform and/or assist with advanced technical procedures, including injections, blood collection, sample processing, anesthesia support, and euthanasia using approved methods.* Provide pre- and post-operative care and assist in surgical procedures as directed.* Ensure accurate documentation of procedures, treatments, and observations.Compliance and Facility Operations:* Ensure that all activities meet institutional, federal, and state regulatory requirements.* Coordinate quarantine, import/export of animals, and disease surveillance in accordance with all internal SOPs and regulatory requirements.* Maintain inventory, coordinate ordering and delivery of all clinical or veterinary supplies.* Maintain accurate records for census, husbandry, treatments, and compliance documentation.* Monitor and maintain facility equipment, coordinate with maintenance staff for repairs.* Assist in developing and refining SOPs and ensure consistent implementation across facilities.* Participate in internal audits, post-approval monitoring (PAM) visits, and AAALAC accreditation activities.Cross-Campus and Team Support:* Provide coverage and support across multiple campus vivaria as needed.* Foster a collaborative, team-oriented environment that supports research and animal welfare.Leadership and Supervision:* Assign and oversee the daily work of animal care staff; provide feedback and guidance to ensure quality care and efficient operations.* Train and mentor staff in animal handling, husbandry, technical skills, and compliance with SOPs and regulations, in coordination with the Associate Director of Training.* Monitor performance and report progress or issues to management staff.* Perform other job-related duties as assigned to support the Comparative Medicine program.**FAU Benefits and Perks**If Benefits & Perks are important to you, then FAU is the place to be! View it here:**Minimum Qualifications:**Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience required.

Valid driver's license required.

Preferred Qualifications/Skills:

Rodent colony management experience, to include breeding, weaning, genotyping, and identification of health concerns that may impact breeding or research goals.

LATG Certification by AALAS with Supervisory responsibilities.**Salary:**$55,000 - $60,000 annually.
