Medication Technician – Cayuga Addiction Recovery Services – Full Time – Days/Evenings FLEX

The Medication Technician provides direct support to individuals participating in residential addiction recovery services. This role oversees the self‑administration of medications, monitors medication effects, maintains accurate medication records and inventory, and supports a safe and recovery‑oriented residential environment. The Medication Technician works closely with nursing and residential program staff to ensure medication safety and effective coordination of care.
Roles and Responsibilities
Oversee and support the self‑administration of medications in accordance with agency policies and applicable regulations
Monitor and document medication effects, reporting concerns or changes to nursing staff as appropriate
Maintain accurate medication counts and medication inventory
Ensure medication carts remain organized, clean, and properly maintained, and assist with medication cart audits
Serve as a positive role model for clients, promoting recovery‑focused behavior and healthy boundaries
Collaborate with nursing and residential program staff to support daily program operations
Assist with additional duties as assigned to support the residential treatment team
Required Skills and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required
CPR and First Aid certification required, or ability to obtain within the first month of employment
Preferred Skills and Experience
One (1) year of experience as a Medication Aide or Medication Technician
One (1) year of experience working with individuals in substance use disorder or addiction recovery settings
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge
Basic understanding of addiction, recovery, and behavioral health principles
Familiarity with strength‑based and individualized treatment approaches
Understanding of group processes and recovery‑oriented care environments
Skills and Abilities
Strong interpersonal and relationship‑building skills
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Ability to multitask and remain organized in a fast‑paced setting
Crisis intervention and de‑escalation skills
Ability to maintain professional boundaries with clients
Proficiency with computer systems for documentation and communication
Ability to work collaboratively as a proactive member of a multidisciplinary team
Professional conduct that reflects positively on the organization
Physical Requirements
Frequent hand and finger use (e.g., to operate a computer keyboard)
Lifting and carrying items up to 40 lbs (e.g., boxes, equipment, IV solutions), with or without reasonable accommodation
Ability to stoop, kneel, or crouch for tasks such as retrieving items from lower shelves or filing in low drawers
Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods, as the position may require
Capacity to operate job‑related equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation
Location and Travel Requirements
Location: Onsite at the CARS Residential Campus – 6621 NYS Route 227, Trumansburg, NY 14850
Shift: Days/Evenings – shifts will range between 7am and 10pm with rotating weekends and holidays
Travel: 0% Travel can be expected in this role
Pay Range Disclosure
Standard rate of $18.00 – $22.00 per hour
