Rural Doctors Network invites Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified Clinical Psychiatrists to provide
outreach mental health services
across
Aboriginal Medical Services (AMSs)
in NSW.
These opportunities support improved access to specialist psychiatric care for Aboriginal communities and are delivered through flexible outreach models, combining face-to-face visits and telehealth. Clinicians are supported with cultural orientation, practice management, and strong clinical governance frameworks.
About the Role
This opportunity is ideal for an Adult Psychiatrist to provide outreach mental health services across Aboriginal Medical Services (AMSs) in NSW. Preferably with an interest in
trauma-informed care and co-occurring alcohol and other drugs (AOD)
presentations.
You will work alongside Aboriginal Health Workers, GPs, mental health clinicians and community services to support adults experiencing complex mental health needs within culturally safe, holistic models of care.
This role is a Hybrid model, though travel to rural and remote locations in NSW is required for approximately 75% of clinical time.
What You’ll Be Doing
Providing comprehensive psychiatric assessment and diagnostic clarification
Delivering trauma-informed treatment and medication management
Supporting care for individuals with co-occurring mental health and AOD concerns
Working collaboratively within Aboriginal led, multidisciplinary teams
Supporting continuity of care through shared care and outreach models
What We’re Looking For
Current AHPRA registration
Fellowship of the RANZCP, or
RANZCP Fellowship Trainee with appropriate supervision, or
Rural Generalist with advanced mental health skills
Experience or strong interest in trauma-informed and AOD informed practice
Commitment to culturally safe, collaborative care
