is seeking an
Accountant I
to provide sound financial stewardship and analysis to our NASA client at Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston, TX. This role is located in Houston, TX and interested individuals must reside in the area or be immediately willing to relocate in order to support the customer with on-site meetings and other in-person requirements 5 days/week.
Responsibilities
Familiar with accounting concepts such as: journal entries, general ledgers, debits/credits, reversals, cost accounting, and property accounting
Utilize Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Support the accounting staff and audit process by compiling data from financial systems (including Systems, Applications, and Products (SAP) and Business Objects) and source documents from physical files
Support several areas including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, reimbursable accounting and audits
Prepare financial reports for review by senior accounting personnel
Under contractor supervision, must be able to assess products and procedures for compliance with Government accounting standards and principles
May verify that balances and activity reported in the financial statements are auditable, accurate, and complete
May perform or assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliation and support the monthly and annual closing process
May provide input on internal controls and process narratives
May review/analyze data such as invoice documentation and source documents
May post transactions
May perform basic variance/trend analysis and forecasting activities
Required Experience / Skills
0-2 years of experience in accounting or related field
Knowledgeable of accounting concepts such as: journal entries, general ledgers, debits/credits, reversals, cost accounting, and property accounting
Must be able to assess products and procedures for compliance with Government accounting standards and principles
Education Requirements
Candidates for this position must possess a BS/BA degree in accounting; or a degree in a related field that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting
Clearance Requirements
Public Trust – Candidates for this position must be submitted for a background investigation in order to satisfy government requirements.
