Job Description:

Pathologist (MD/DO)Position Summary The Pathologist provides expert diagnostic services through the examination and interpretation of tissues, cells, and bodily fluids. This role supports patient care by delivering accurate, timely diagnoses, guiding clinical decision-making, and collaborating with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure high-quality, evidence-based outcomes.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesExamine and interpret surgical pathology, cytology, and/or autopsy specimens consistent with training and privilegesDiagnose disease processes using gross and microscopic evaluation, ancillary testing, and clinical correlationProvide pathology consultation services to physicians and clinical care teamsInterpret laboratory studies and pathology reports to support diagnosis and treatment planningParticipate in tumor boards, multidisciplinary conferences, and case reviews as applicableEnsure accurate, timely, and complete pathology reportingMaintain quality assurance and quality control standards within the laboratoryParticipate in laboratory accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activitiesSupervise and collaborate with pathology assistants, laboratory staff, residents, or fellows as applicableEducate trainees and clinical staff as appropriateParticipate in quality improvement, patient safety, and outcomes initiativesComply with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards

QualificationsDoctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical schoolCompletion of an accredited pathology residency program (Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, or combined AP/CP)Fellowship training in a pathology subspecialty preferred but not requiredBoard-eligible or board-certified in PathologyAbility to obtain and maintain unrestricted state medical licensureEligibility for hospital or laboratory credentialing

Work EnvironmentHospital laboratories, pathology departments, reference laboratories, or academic medical centersPrimarily laboratory-based with limited or no direct patient contact

Physical RequirementsAbility to sit or stand for extended periods while reviewing specimensManual dexterity for specimen handling and microscopic examinationVisual acuity sufficient for detailed microscopic analysisRequirements Must maintain state certification and/or licensure.

Must be legally licensed to practice medicine in North Dakota and/or Minnesota, depending on the location of the practice to which you are assigned.
